I recently made a short video (in English this time!) about Polkadot that you can see here: https://youtube.com/shorts/rOphX8sefKE?si=sg_kIsV-ck7UkhD6
I noticed that some people are still interested in Polkadot... The decentralized layer-0 blockchain ("relay chain") enabling interconnection between other blockchains ("parachains"). Sounds good. But the reality is that most people don't care so much about decentralization and interconnected blockchains anymore...
So where have they gone? Mostly on Solana and more recently on Sui. Not decentralized, but it works... I will dive deeper into these blockchains soon.
It's interesting to see how the crypto landscape has shifted in the last couple of years. When I first got into this space, Polkadot and Cardano were positioned as the "Ethereum killers" - promising better scalability, interoperability, and true decentralization. Their academic approaches and thorough development seemed like the future.
But crypto moves fast. Very fast.
While Polkadot and Cardano were perfecting their technology and governance models, users flocked to chains that simply worked right now. Solana's lightning-fast transactions (when the network stays up) and vibrant DeFi and NFT ecosystem pulled in developers and users alike. And now Sui is following a similar playbook with impressive traction.
The truth is, most everyday users care more about speed and cost than decentralization principles. They want to mint an NFT for $0.01 instead of $50, trade without watching gas fees, and use dApps that feel as responsive as traditional apps.
I still believe in the vision behind Polkadot and Cardano. Their focus on security, decentralization, and sustainability matters in the long run. But they're facing an uphill battle in the attention economy of crypto. Without a thriving app ecosystem and user base, even the most elegant blockchain architecture becomes an academic exercise.
What are your thoughts? Has the market permanently shifted toward performance over principles? Are Polkadot and Cardano still relevant in your crypto portfolio or have you moved on?
