A few weeks ago, I was running after every airdrop I could find, hoping to snag some free tokens. But lately, my focus has shifted, and I've started accumulating Bitcoin (BTC) instead.
I indeed stumbled upon an article by Joshua Henslee on CoinGeek that got me thinking. The article discusses the potential for Bitcoin to fork into two separate chains:
Ordinals have reignited debates that many BTC maximalists thought were dead and buried, such as how to scale the BTC blockchain and whether or not to raise the block size (...) Joshua Henslee considers whether they might cause BTC to fork again.
Now, for those of you who might not be familiar with the concept, a fork is essentially a divergence in the blockchain, resulting in two separate versions of the cryptocurrency:
- Bitcoin Cash (BCH) was the first Bitcoin fork that tried to effectively solve Bitcoin's scalability problem. BTC holders received BCH like an airdrop.
- Bitcoin SV (BSV) was a fork of Bitcoin Cash. BCH holders also got BSV directly in their wallet like an airdrop.
Although this might sound a bit confusing at first, if Bitcoin were to fork, it would create a unique opportunity for Bitcoin holders. Holding Bitcoin on a Bitcoin wallet could potentially lead to receiving the biggest airdrop ever. Imagine that—a massive influx of coins simply for holding onto your Bitcoin. It's like hitting the jackpot!
Of course, this possibility is not guaranteed, and it's all still speculative at this point. However, with the potential for such a significant airdrop, it's certainly an opportunity worth considering.
So, what can you do to prepare? You can accumulate Bitcoin whenever you can. If a Bitcoin fork becomes more likely, that's what the whales might do...
