I've made some decent money with Solana, but lately, I can't shake the feeling that something's off. There's been a lot of talk about the lies and shady behavior surrounding the project, and honestly, I dunno who’s lying, but it’s got me spooked enough to look elsewhere.
Initially, I think Solana has the smartest business model of all crypto. That's way I called them the "easyJet of crypto" in a video:
But let’s start with the basics: Solana was supposed to be decentralized, secure, and scalable. But guess what? They traded off decentralization for scalability, and it's been a disaster. The network went down at least ten times as far as I know. And it wasn’t just bad luck; it was by design. It’s almost like they knew their model was flawed but went ahead anyway. Now they claim they've had no outage since February... Until when?
Then there’s the whole mess when Solana first launched. They claimed the circulating supply was 8.2M, but it was actually over 20M. It’s not like they made a mistake—they lied. People called them out, and the Solana team just doubled down on their story until they got caught red-handed... Who does that?
And that’s not all. The team has also been caught inflating their transactions per second (TPS) by counting internal messages as transactions. This fake number makes Solana look faster and more efficient than it really is, deceiving everyone from investors to casual users. They even lied about handling 400,000 TPS during an alleged DDoS attack, which turned out to be a complete fabrication.
Oh, and let's not forget the TVL (Total Value Locked) scam where two developers faked the ecosystem’s numbers. This wasn’t just a small slip-up—over 70% of Solana's peak $10B TVL was fake. If that doesn’t raise red flags, I don’t know what does.
I’m not saying Solana is a total scam, but when you add up the lies, the fraud, and the repeated failures, it’s clear there’s a pattern of bad behavior here. Sure, some might defend Solana, saying it's still developing. But every time the network crashed, the reputation of the entire crypto community took a hit.
I’d love to see Solana turn things around, but the reality is, they’d have to admit their mistakes and completely overhaul their design. That seems unlikely given how much money is at stake. For now, I’m putting my money elsewhere. There are better projects out there that don’t come with so much baggage.
In the end, we need to be critical about where we invest, especially in a space as volatile as cryptocurrency. Solana’s flashy marketing might fool some, but I’ve seen enough to know when it’s time to walk away.
