I wanted to share a personal experience I had recently that almost ended with me getting scammed. It all started with a seemingly harmless job offer on Twitter, but things quickly took a suspicious turn.
I was contacted by someone offering a remote crypto-related position with flexible hours and decent pay. It seemed like a great opportunity, so I engaged in conversation and we eventually moved to Discord for further discussion. We agreed on 0.02 ETH per hour for 3 hours per day, what looked decent for this kind of job.
However, alarm bells started ringing when I was asked to download an executable file, that was supposed to be the game for which I would have been a community moderator. Furthermore, I checked the IP address of the website of the supposed company and it was flagged as being hosted in Russia:
This raised a huge red flag for me, as it's a very usual place for hackers.
I decided to dig deeper and discovered several inconsistencies in the information provided. The website was poorly designed, and the company's social media presence was minimal.
In the end, I decided to trust my gut and walk away from the offer. It was a close call, but I'm glad I didn't fall for it.
This experience has taught me a valuable lesson: always be vigilant when dealing with unsolicited job offers online, especially those involving cryptocurrency. Do your research, trust your instincts, and never share sensitive information without verifying the legitimacy of the source.
