Do You Own STARS, CASH COWS or DOGS Coins?

Do You Own STARS or DOGS Coins?

If you have studied a bit marketing, you probably know the BCG growth share matrix:

Have you ever tried to apply it to cryptos? Let's give a try:

  • Market share: we can use the market cap, obviously.
  • Market growth: we can look at the holder number growth.

For instance, let's have a look at the number of Bitcoin unique addresses with a non-zero balance:

After a constant growth from May 2018 to May 2021, the number of addresses has then slightly declined and stagnated to resume at a good pace from September 2021. However, we can feel that this growth is not as fast as previously. Therefore, we can consider that Bitcoin has become a cash cow.

Looking at some other coins and tokens, we could propose the following distribution as per the BCG matrix:

Usually, as a business owner, you keep a few cash cows (good for stability), focus on the stars, challenge the question marks and get rid of the dogs.

You may disagree with this vision above. However, it is worth wondering if your coins are CASH COWS, STARS, QUESTION MARKS or DOGS.
