How You Do Anything Is How You Do Everything

Do you ever wonder why some people seem to have it so much more together than you? Or do you ever find yourself constantly comparing yourself to others?

There are many common sayings that describe it. To name a few:

  • Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world
  • Your attitude determines your Altitude
  • Your vibe to attracts your tribe
  • How you do anything is how you do everything

Your perspective alone can greatly change your circumstances. How we view the things going on in our lives can make quite a profound difference.

Life does not operate independently of itself. Everything you do in one domain of life will spill over into the other domains. The primary domains I consider are: physical, mental, emotional, intuition, and spiritual.

We can't pour from empty cups. Dually, we're only as strong as our weakest domain.

Sounds good in theory, right? How does it apply in real practice?

Example 1: Complaining your way through a "tough" workout; even mentally.

Do you find that you're constantly surrounded by negative nelly's? You're constantly running into people that drain the energy out of you?

It may be time to take a step back and consider what's going on in your head. Negative self talk will give off an icky vibe and attract icky people.

Do you find yourself;

  • Using negative (maybe even abusive) internal dialogue
  • Mentally quitting before you start
  • Not giving it your all
  • Not being present, risking injury not paying attention to movements

This example spills over into traffic, work, and more I won't get into. Here's how:

The boss hands you a project you're not so keen on. You wait until the 11th hour dreading it and do a rush job which reflects a lack of care for performance.

The spouse asks for company taking care of a few things, your mind is off wandering about the next big project or milestone you're facing.

How to turn this into a strength?

Do the hard work first and start your day off with a workout.

  • Practice positive self talk during a workout
  • Come up with a mantra or power phrase "easy day, I got this" to repeat when negative thoughts creep in
  • Find 1-2 things to look forward to, and start early
  • Take a deep breathe next time you feel the negative emotions kicking in, accept them and let them pass (don't hold onto them)

You can use your physical training as a way to repattern your thinking, learn to control your mind and emotions, and use that training time in the real world.

Consider it for next time you find yourself wondering why you keep running into the same people or environments.

Example 2: Hitting the snooze button when it's time to get moving

Do you find that it's "almost impossible" to be on time? That you drag your feet to get things done or wait until the last minute?

How you wake up in the morning (or not) can set the tone for the rest of your day.

It's easy to roll over and hit the snooze button when you haven't given yourself anything to look forward to during the coming day.

It starts with the night before. Pull out your journal and take inventory of the wins and losses of the day. Celebrate the wins, learn from the losses and then let it all go. Eradicate regret.

Next, prepare your space for the next day. Figure out your workout, and get excited for it (consider it a form of adult play time!). Get your gear and clothes ready and go to bed with enough time for a good nights sleep.

In the morning you're set up for success and met with little resistance. After all, the "scramble" is out of the way as it was prepared the night before.

Hop on some motivational talks for the first 20-60 minutes of your day. Scared of waking people up? Wear headphones!

Get some positivity in your brain and think of 5 things you're grateful for, then get a start on your day.

These little tricks don't seem like a lot. They will however help you get 1% better and stronger every day in every way.

That's what we're playing for after all, isn't it? To become the highest and greatest version of ourselves and to lift those around us up with us?

How you do anything is how you do everything; rising with the tide starts with getting your internal realm squared away first and foremost!
