The end of an era

The end of an era

Fast Forward. For a few years I have had the feeling, many of us have, of living the end of an era, an era that we could romantically call the 20th century but which is not a chronological, orderly and equanimous line, but a baroque map of works, events , prominent figures and communities that exceed personal egos, where everything connects. And the ink on that map seems to be fading. And people dying. The pandemic caused a derangement and accelerated the farewell. It's as if someone had pressed the F. Fwd button (I can't think of a better analogy than analog) and the tape fired forward and nothing was seen or heard. The film reduced to a hysterical sequence of images, the songs transformed into a comic syringe. Faced with that we were stunned, our jaw a little drooping, our eyes surprised at not understanding, at not having time to process. The feeling that something hit us. It is paradoxical that this happens to us in an era when we pride ourselves on being the kings of speed. It seems that although we try to force it, human time is different. The native peoples knew / know better that time, possibly because they do not think of themselves as the only species. They don't have salvation either, but they live as long as they have to live in a different way and perhaps that will bring some communion. Nobody dares to talk much about the future. For now we are in mourning and we do what is done in duels, cry and remember.
