My two little neighbours lived in a two-storey house surrounded by flowers. One afternoon, one of those when the sun is in a hurry to leave, to hide between the castle and the fields of La Alcarria, I met them on my way home after their daily walk and they invited me to have a snack the next day.
They were older, almost touching the 85-year-old barrier, but they were still together. That was the most important thing. He had dedicated his whole life to commerce. She, in addition to her chores, continues to dedicate herself to gardening.
In the backyard of her house, on the left side, she has a carefully tended rosebush and, on the right side, a trunk decorated with clay pots. When I saw it, I was stunned.

«How did you come up with this idea, Neli?» My neighbour approached me to see what I was referring to. She smiled and said:
«It was my son's idea. We used to have an apple tree, but we had to remove it. He suggested that we didn't uproot it and that we left it like that, at that size to decorate it and have a memory of the tree from his childhood. Later we thought of putting in the pots with different kinds of flowers.»
I thought it was a lovely idea. His son, Alberto, travels a lot for work and barely has time to be with them, only during the few days he has vacation in the summer and the odd day at Christmas. Despite this, he calls them every day after work and, from time to time, sends them postcards from all the countries he has had to go to with his work team.
