Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Dragons!

By RealSociology | Economic Musings | 18 Nov 2022

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase Dragons...

The battle below features numerous dragons in a tight victory with the Life Splinter and with both teams playing opportunity. I win mainly because of my summoner: the wonderful Byzantine Kitty...

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap 30
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Byzantine Kitty - plus two speed, tank heal and true strike!

  1. Lord Aranthus - a useful 5 mana tank with shield and void
  2. Whelp Herder - Opportunity attack one
  3. Dragon Jumper - my main opportunity attack card
  4. Celestial Harpy - opportunity attack three
  5. Venari Crystalsmith - tank heal support
  6. Cocatrice - really a sneak soak!

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here !

  • Round 1 - I take out my opponents' scavo hireling - nice to get rid of repair before it kicks in. But I lost my Cocatrice (a miss would have been nice?!?) and my Celestial Harpy.
  • Round 2 - straight off the bat I take out my opponent's Pelacor Deceiver but I lose my Dragon Whelp
  • Round 3 - I take out Feasting Seaweed
  • Round 4 - I lose my Venari Crystalsmith
  • Round 5 - I take out Mershali Guardian, heal for heal!
  • Round 6 - I lose Lord A
  • Round 7 - i take out the Squid tank or whatever it is!
  • Rounds 8-10 - it's now just me and DeepLurcker trading blows, I eventually win because I'm being healed every round....

How important was Byzantine Kitty?

This was a real tit for tat battles, and the Kitty was crucial in winning it, right down to the wire.

The two extra speed came in useful all the way through to the end meaning the Dragon Jumper was never going to miss AND got that crucial first attack in final round when whoever struck first was going to win.

And true strike means you can play low speed cards without fear of them missing.

And without his tank heal I wouldn't have won!

It's testimony to how great the Kitty is that I won an opportunity match where my opponent played shields and I didn't!

I guess I got lucky with the order of things, taking out that repair card first was crucial I think and I took out that healing card just in time too!

Although i was UNLUCKY not to draw a single miss with two flying cards and my relatively high speed!

Final Thoughts: Byzantine Kitty - worth buying?

OK OK so she's not within everyone's budget but she is hands down the current best summoner in the Splinterlands canon, so if you can afford her, buy her - she wins a lot, it's as simple as that - SPEED is king!
