You came back well as I said there is no turning back now. If you are totaly lost I would suggest reading the first post one small step down the rabbit hole
Now that you took the red pill I can explain this metaphor a little bit more in detail. This iconic reference to one of the most indirect representation of the real state of our world in recent times The Matrix. Is actually a representation of Plato''s Allegory of the cave
In the Allegory of the cave Plato
Puts forward a theory that normal man is afraid of philosophical knowledge that we are happy to believe in what we see. He goes on to state that the search for truth can not be done with what we see as the only refrence of reality. If you believe only in truths seen you believery in half truths.
So as illustrated above the theory is as follows.
Imagine you take 3 prisoners from birth and lock them to a chain . Their heads are locked into a fixed position so the can't look behind them or to the sides. As they are locked like this from birth they know nothing but this reality. Behind the prisoners there is a fire constantly burning and between the fire and the prisoners there is a road , bridge or something that the puppeteers use to move objects and things. This casts shadows on the wall in front of the prisoners. Plato
Goes on to discuss a game the prisoners play where they choose or guess the next object to appear. The prisoner that gets that rite gets regarded as intelligent and wise a master of nature. This draws the picture of how narrow minded the prisoners are. As they have been infront of this wall their whole life. Their nature and truth is not the objects causing the shadows but the shadows them self. The shadows are the only thing they have seen so therefore they believe that the shadows are the real state. Plato
Then brings up the idea of what would happen if one prisoner escaped the prison? What would that be like?
Then references the philosopher with the escaped prisoner. He explains the escaped prisoners experience as unbelievable at first, later the prisoner understands the reality of what causes the shadows and finds the sunshine. As the prisoner is travelling through a journey of enlightenment he realises the folly of how he use the see the world. He realises it was a waist of time. He then decides to go back to the prison and free the other prisoners . When he gets back and shows them the objects making the shadows the prisoners go crazy as they can not picture what he is saying as real as they have no refrence to work with because they have only ever seen the shadows. Plato Goes on to state that the old prisoners will force the escaped one to stop that they would even kill him if need be to restore their own believe of reality.
This draws on the idea of what you believe you shall preserve. Plato
Says that it illustrates the mistrust people put in philosophers and why people don't seek philosophical truth. Because they are afraid of being enlightened. I'm this walk of illumination it will become clear that the normal way of thinking is wrong and sight based.
Is the first subject I decided to write about. It is the founding block on witch the truth will be built. As I del deeper into the rabbit hole I will uncover some outrageous truths. It is important for the reader to think about things in a philosophical way and not in sight based way. This concludes the first letter. I have thought about it and I believe that this is only a little bit of a big pie. So this concludes chapter one of the first letter. Each letter will have 10 chapters. I'll work it out as I go along this road towards freedom.
