Leverage Your Knowledge for Growth and Exposure
The world is filled with passionate and extremely knowledgeable people. Although, many of us struggle to find areas to apply those passions and (sometimes obsessive) knowledge. Even worse is when you do find an area to apply your passions and knowledge but you have a hard time gaining traction or exposure for yourself. Any entrepreneur will understand that feeling. In searing for ways to grow personally and professionally, I came across a service called Help A Reporter Out (HARO).
The Description from HARO's website states: "HARO connects journalists seeking expertise to include in their content with sources who have that expertise."
Essentially, HARO sends out an email every day filled with different topics that reporters are writing articles, press releases, research papers, etc on. (Screenshot below).
The topics from HARO are broken out into different categories. All you need to do is find a category that you have knowledge in, review the topics that reporters or writers are seeking information on and then respond with answers to their questions. You are not guaranteed to be featured as a reference for the articles but its a free opportunity at exposure for you, your business, or your brand. I have responded to them for well over a year (when I can) and have been featured in a couple different magazines now. You are not told who/what publication you are responding to so it could be something minor like on online micro e-pub magazine or something huge like New York Times.
Main Topics Everyday:
- Biotech and Healthcare
- Business and Finance (Often Crypto related things)
- Education
- Entertainment and Media
- General
- High Tech
- Lifestyle and Fitness
- Public Policy and Government
- Travel
Another Crypto specific example:
All you need to do is respond to that email address listed there, by the deadline, with your answers on those questions. If they like your responses they might reach out for additional reference info and then potentially include your responses in their articles.
As you can see, there are plenty of topics to respond to. Each of which will have multiple requests for information from writers and reporters. HARO is now a Cision owned service as well. Cision is a powerhouse in the media marketing industry. I hope you all find this information helpful.
