Northlight School is doing something innovative this year. All Education Officers embarked on a Staff Work Experience (SWEe) initiative this Thursday and Friday.
Hai Siang Chia was kind enough to let me be attached to the SLS (Student Learning Space) Office@Grange Road. It might have been a short two days, but I was involved in several activities. I listened in to a pitch by an external vendor, gave my inputs to two SLS lessons on “One-Stop Hub” and participated in a learning journey. I benefitted both personally and professionally.
Personal
I did the SLS Superhero Quiz and found out that I am a Discussant. I got to smile at the on-point description of my character - I do have Reddit installed on my phone!
Professional
3 things I learnt
1. Did you know that there is a Google info site for SLS user guides, allowing you to Google to find the information you need?
2. Did you know that the SLS Office releases two iterations of SLS every year - once in June and once in December?
3. Did you know that the SLS Office aims to facilitate Flexible and Adaptive Learning from now to 2026?
I didn’t know all this until I went on my work attachment this week.
2 takeaways I will pursue further
1. Cool that the learning journey comprised a treasure hunt activity, in which we explored different parts of the SLS Office to gather clues that would help us ace a Kahoot! quiz. Since everything was done on SLS and with iPads, I am motivated to replicate this experience with my students in my classroom.
2. I got introduced to the Agile framework and Scrum practices, which are prevalent methodologies in software development. Will read up more to see how I can integrate some tips to bolster my professional effectiveness.

In all, I was heartened to work behind the scenes with the dedicated staff that help serve 500,000 users - including young overseas Singaporeans - via SLS. I will love to be attached to the SLS Office again!
