Opinion Matching Exercise

Opinion Matching Exercise

In this fast-paced world, it’s important to evaluate information fast and differentiate fact from opinion so that we don’t get swayed by other people’s biases. Perhaps this is why Workplace Literacy and Numeracy, the examination my graduating students will take at the end of this year, focuses quite a bit on opinion matching.

So I came up with the following four ‘testimonies’ to help my students pick up the correct one that corresponds to a particular speaker. Education and Career Guidance is a subject they took last year, so I’m rather excited to see whether they would see themselves in my testimonies below. 👇 You can tell that I enjoyed taking on various perspectives!

Speaker 1

When I first came across “Education and Career Guidance”, I was bewildered. I scratched my head as I did not know what this subject was. During the first lesson, my teacher explained to us that it would help us understand ourselves better so that we could make informed career choices and financial decisions. I thought it was a terrific idea! I really wanted to travel around the world in the future, so I was interested to learn about how to manage my money well.

Speaker 2

Honestly, I dread Education and Career Guidance lessons. I find them boring. After all, my primary school teacher taught us how to use MySkills Future website. Why do we have to learn the same things again in NorthLight? I also don’t agree with the way financial literacy is taught to us. I mean, it’s great that we distinguish between needs and wants, but what is a want for me may be a need for others. For example, my father cannot function without his daily cup of Starbucks coffee!

Speaker 3

I relish Education and Career Guidance lessons! They are my favourite part of the week. My teacher is so humorous and always makes us laugh with his funny remarks. But don’t get me wrong. I learn so many things from him every week. I like how he treats us like adults and talks to us on a peer level. He shares his own job experiences and money management tools. Because of him, I told my mother about digital banks. She was impressed with my knowledge!

Speaker 4

I am undecided about how I feel about Education and Career Guidance. On some days, we do interesting activities like budgeting exercises, so time passes by in a flash. On other days, time crawls like a snail. My teacher likes to share his personal experiences. The other day, he rambled on about digital banks and refused to stop talking even after the bell rang to signify for recess. I was so famished! I wish he would be more considerate and end the lesson punctually.
