breaking a bad habit

“Simon, could you help me be the emcee for Teachers’ Day?” Mrs Goh asked me earnestly. To be honest, I was overwhelmed with a plethora of responsibilities, but I could not decline her request. This was my flaw: I had trouble saying no to people. I burnt the midnight oil, but I ended up failing my Weighted Assessment. That was when I knew I had to break my bad habit. I started to say no when I felt that my plate was filled to the brim. I learnt an important lesson about articulating my personal boundaries to the people around me.

a precious memory

Microstory: (Pei Hwa) A Previous Memory

To boost the pass rate of the NAFPA test, our school decided to give the class with the highest pass rate the privilege of organising a class party during Teachers’ Day. My classmates and I were daunted by the competition. Our peers from other classes were as fit as a fiddle. Nonetheless, we came together after school to run regularly. The training was arduous, but we never wavered in our quest to get first. And our hard work paid off! I learnt that if we cooperated, we could overcome formidable challenges as a class. This amazing feat has become a precious memory to be etched in my heart.
