I love this concise and compact book because it immediately brings me up to speed on all things composting. I had an excursion to Ground Up Initiative yesterday, and this book prepared me thoroughly for the questions to ask the manager working there. Examples of questions include the frequency in which I should use a spade to mix up the compost pile, the frequency in which food scraps should be added, and the signs to identify when a pile is ready for use.

I also learnt that landfills are a source of methane gas, which contributes to global warming. Which is strange because I have been a Science student for most of my educational journey but I have never come across this fact. I also love how it is peppered with practical tips for people keen to embark on a composting journey. Stuff like drilling holes in the bin 2-5 centimeters apart and placing a saucer underneath the bin to keep everything clean.
Packed with illustrations and bolded key words, “Little Environmentalist - Composting” is the handy guide for children (and some adults) who need an induction into this sustainable way of living. I have been prompted into asking useful questions, which is the best any book can do to advance my growth as a human being.
