Another lesson.

Mr Heng got Jerrick to read all the third words in the Dolch list. Jerrick read most words clearly. It was time to move on. Mr Heng chose ‘laugh’ as it was a phonetically irregular word. He got his student to spell these words:

• laughs
• laughing (continuous tense)
• laughed (past tense)
• laughter

Some students do not know how to read ‘ter’. However, ‘ter’ is found in many English words. Additionally, it is a prefix in Malay.

Mr Heng taught Jerrick to spell ‘laughter’ and ‘yesterday’. After that, Mr Heng chose the word ‘carry’. It has the ending consonant ‘y’ and requires the user to remove it before adding various suffixes.

• carry —> carries (subject-verb agreement)
• carry —> carried (past tense)
• carry —> carrying (continuous tense)

Mr Heng felt satisfied. It was a lesson conducted meaningfully!
