Let's Learn: How to put sentences from a procedure in the correct order
What is a procedure?

A set of instructions that teaches us how to do something, make something or get somewhere

Examples include recipes, directions to destinations and travel itineraries.
Why should we learn how to sequence a text?
When you know how ideas in a procedure are linked logically, you can apply this skill to help you express your feelings and opinions clearly.
As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” Practising this skill many times will make you a competent and confident communicator.
How are ideas in a procedure linked logically?
Cohesive devices play an important role in linking ideas in a procedure.

Cohesive devices include pronouns, conjunctions and connectors of sequence.

Worked Example One: The sentences below are from an article on preparing for job interviews. Put the sentences in the right order by writing the correct number (2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) in the column. The first one is done for you.

How are ideas in this procedure linked logically?
When we apply logical sequencing, we will be able to arrive at the correct order as shown below.
