A song that few people in Italy do not know, this song represents something very profound towards people who have lost their lives for their ideals.

On April 25th in Italy the liberation from the Nazi occupation and the fascist regime of the nation during the Second World War is celebrated annually. This song has become an icon of that event.

Popular all over the world, especially thanks to the first world festival of Democratic Youth in Prague in the summer of 1947, in which young partisans from the Italian region of "Emilia" participated. Her music is by an unknown author and goes back to various popular melodies.

She partially reproduces in her lyrics the structure of the song "Fior di tomba while", a childish song spread all over northern Italy, she is also attributed an influence to a French ballad of 1500 absorbed by the Piedmontese, Trentino and Veneto traditions, respectively with the songs "Là daré 'd cola montagna", "Il fiore di Teresina" and "Stamattina mi sono alzata", as well as in the songs of the mondariso (those who work seasonally on rice paddy fields clearing).

Lately it has become more famous thanks to the TV series "Money Heist", which for the protagonists has the meaning of resistance. According to its screenwriter, Javier Gomez Santander, who sang it during the holidays when he was young when he went to Erasmus with an Italian friend:

"It is the symbol of those who fight on the side of justice".

So he decided to include it in the series, he went on to say during an interview:

"I like what this song means, the struggle it brings with it. One day I woke up one day with the fixed thought of the series that was tormenting me and I decided to put it on. It was a flash. I realized that Bella Ciao and Money Heist shared the soul. I shouted: we are partisans"

"We must tell those who praise hatred and fascism that we do not forget that they represent the worst face of humanity"

This is my version of this song, only voice, without any accompanying instrument, I decided to wear the mask of "V for Vendetta" (If you haven't seen it do it, a film that has become a cult film, where "union makes strength" is a more than effective summary to not let anything show up and not spoil the surprise in case you don't know it) which in my opinion matches very well the meaning of the song and also resembles that of Dali, worn by the protagonists of the Netflix TV Series.

I want to specify that I'm totally apolitical, but every time I hear and sing this song it gives me unique feelings, I hope you like it, let me know in the comments what you think about it.

Lyrics translate:

One morning I woke up
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful,
goodbye
one morning I woke up
and I found the invader

Oh partisan take me away
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye
oh partisan take me away
that I'm feeling like dying

And if I die as a partisan
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye
and if I die as a partisan
you must bury me

You will bury me over there, on the mountain
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye
you will bury me over there on the mountain
under the shadow of a wonderful flower

And all the people passing by
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye
and all the people passing by
will say "what a wonderful flower"

And this is the flower of the partisan
goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye my Beautiful, goodbye
dead for our freedom
and this is the flower of the partisan
dead for freedom

Thanks for watching an reading, a big hug and see you soon!
