Invisible threats – zero-days in cyberspace

Invisible threats – zero-days in cyberspace

Zero-day vulnerabilities are considered one of the darkest and strongest threats, faced by all modern enterprises in the process of increasing informational space. These threats are not easy to detect even though they pose great dangers to the world-network infrastructure. The invisible threats exploit undocumented and open software vulnerability, thus making them more difficult to find.

Zero day vulnerability occurs when an unpatched, undisclosed bug is discovered to exist on either a vendor’s software or even a hardware product without its knowledge and/or approval. Cyber-criminals take advantage of this weakness before security teams can patch up the loopholes. Zero-day attacks contain those characteristics that make them unique and unpredictable, even by traditional security systems.

Zero-day exploits, however, are always regarded as ‘zero day cash commodity’ among the underground markets. These tools are highly valued by cyber criminals and nations ready to pay a fortune simply to overcome any existing security system. In other software package you will find these options like different kinds of operating system, browsers, plug-ins etc.

Therefore, these loopholes require a comprehensive approach for resolution. Therefore, expensive intrusion detection and threat intelligence system should be purchased by these enterprises. In order to achieve this, the vendors make sure they provide patches and software updates that can be used to fix these bugs, if any. In addition, employing network segmentation and high level access control will prevent breaches in the infrastructure and keep the attacker from roaming on the system.

Finally, there is another dangerous threat called zero-day vulnerability, which appears in cyber space without being noticed. This requires constant watchful cooperation and staying ahead of these secret yet stealing opponents.
