boy and grandpa

Managing Hunger: "Because in Latin America, the biggest drawdown isn't in the account... it's at the table."

-"Grandpa, what was trading like in your time?" -the boy asked, looking at the candle that lit up the room-.

Don Rafa smiled, caressing the black screen of his laptop as if it were an old friend.

-"Look, Joseito," -he said, pointing at the sea from his balcony-. "Your trading account is like a boat. In the United States, boats are made of carbon fiber. In Cuba, we were carpenters of the invisible: our boats were made of hope and numbers.

I traded with $100. Yes, one hundred dollars. What a tourist spent on a coffee in Miami. But here... it was five months' salary for a doctor. And yet, I was making money.

-"Were you making money, Grandpa?!" —asked little Joseito with excited eyes—.

-"I was making money, yes." 15% a month: $15. More than many people saw in a year. But here's the truth they don't tell you on social media: To eat, I needed $20. So I took $15 from the profits... and $5 from the capital. The next month, the boat was smaller, but the sea was just as rough.

-"And the blackouts, Grandpa? How did you do it?"

-"Ah! The blackouts were our "market maker," -he laughed mischievously-.

We traded between power outages:

From 10 AM to 2 PM (unless the government said otherwise).

From 6 PM to 10 PM (unless there was a hurricane).

Trading wasn't 24/7... it was 4/7. And yet, we were profitable. You know why, kid? Because a Latin American trader doesn't need a Bloomberg Terminal... he needs guts. And we had plenty of them.

-"But Grandpa, wasn't it unfair?"

-"Unfair?" -he said, lighting a candle-. "The market is neither fair nor unfair. It just IS. We were like surfers: We didn't complain about the waves... we learned to ride them with what we had.

Sometimes, you saw the chart by candlelight. Other times, the stop loss was set by a blackout. But we never let go of the mouse.

Because in the end, trading wasn't about making money... it was about earning dignity and putting food on the table.

Don Rafa winked, looked at the reader (yes, at you 🫵), and broke the fourth wall with something powerfully revealing:

"That's why I opened my $100 copytrade: so that small boats can row together.

Transparent. Audited. No fantasies.
