The Fear Street trilogy on Netflix was released in 2021 in a three week time span. Part 1 was released in July 2nd, Part 2 was released on July 9th and Part 3 was released on July 16th. Based on the R.L. Stine books, these movies tell the history of a town curse that dates back all the way to 1666. In this trilogy, you'll see a rarity in the horror genre. It's very rare that the sequels are ever better than the original. Scream 2 was not as good as Scream. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was nowhere near as good as Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Even looking at newer horror movies, The Purge sequels don't hold a candle to the original. Maybe it's because this was a different type of movie release, but the movies get better as they go.
Part 1 takes place in 1994 and introduces us to Shadyside, the most unlucky and massacred town in the country. Its residents get killed so much that it's named the Murder Capital of the United States. What's been told to the residents, especially the kids, of Shadyside is that a witch back in 1666 placed a curse on the town before she was put to death for practicing witchcraft. The events of Part 1 lead into the start of Part 2, which tells a little bit more of the backstory about the Camp Nightwing massacre in 1978, that shows a survivor or this massacre, who is also someone that is brought into Part 1. All of this leads into Part 3, which takes place in 1666 where it all started. Sarah Fier and the witchcraft that she practiced that lead to Shadyside being cursed and its residents being continuously killed for decades. But as Part 3 progresses, you'll start to see that it might not be as simple as it seems. We all know small town tales aren't alway what they seem, right?
All in all, this film trilogy is really good. Not generationally good like Scream, Friday the 13th or Halloween, but it's good and the best part about this Trilogy is that it gets better as you continue to watch. Definitely worth the watch and, if you can, watch them all in one sitting. It's much much better that way!
