2003's Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. Or, as most of the people who watched it refer to it, the prequel that noone asked for and noone needed. Just because of the source material of Dumb and Dumber, this movie was going to make a lot of money. Whether the movie itself deserved it or not, that was gonna be a completely different story and, in my opinion, this movie didn't deserve the money it made.

This movie was released in 2003, which was a time where you could get away with certain levels and areas or humor that you just cannot get away with in 2025. For instance, there is a foreign exchange student named Cindy, yet she is called "Ching-Chong". Yes, this is real and that is serious. The filmmakers, Troy Miller and Robert Brener tried as best as they could to grab ahold of the same type of humor that was in the original, however, it fell flat in every aspect. The 1994 comedy with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was able to get away with some of the comedy that they did because it was tastefully done in a very obvious comedic away. Lifting up the main female character's skirt to show the least amount of skin possible, playing off of the "slowness" of Harry and Lloyd. Miller and Brener missed in every single category.

Before this, Troy Miller directed Jack Frost with Michael Keaton and Run Ronnie Run, a satirical comedy film starring David Cross. Outside of that, he was more known for TV shows and Awards shows. Specifically the MTV Movie Awards and the Academy Awards. So when Troy Miller was pinned as not only the director, but writer of the Dumb and Dumber prequel, heads across the film industry were scratched. It's as if Miller took his work on Run Ronnie Run to heart and decided to want to do that type of slapstick comedy, instead of the serious and more relatable nature of Jack Frost, which was a box-office bomb in terms of revenue made at the box office. After this movie released, Miller experienced his most success, becoming a 4 time Emmy nominee for his work on the Academy Awards show and HBO comedy series, The Flight of the Conchords.

Now, is this the worst movie ever made? No. There is a scene with a melted chocolate bar that made me laugh and the special/secret tie to the original at the end of the movie is subtle and well done also. Eugene Levy and Cheri Oteri play the principal and a teacher and they are also bright lights in this film, but those bright lights aren't enough to blind you from the rest of this film, which I believe may have stunted the careers of the main actors in this film. If this film was a much better version of itself, arguable, Derek Richardson, who played Harry, and Eric Christian Olsen, who played Lloyd, might have seen some main character screen time from other studios and directors. I mean, for this same film, not only were they nominated for a Teen Choice Award for "Best Movie Chemistry", but they were also nominated for a Razzie, which is the opposite of "Best", for Worst Screen Couple".  This isn't a must watch, this is actually a must miss and I'm sorry to everyone that watched this in the last 22 years because that's 85 minutes of your life that you can't get back.
