Tron founder Justin Sun has announced plans to integrate Bitcoin Layer two solutions with the Tron network to decentralize and connect various types of tokens, including stablecoins, with the Bitcoin network, expanding the utility and reach of both blockchain systems.
Tron is embarking on an ambitious journey to change the Bitcoin ecosystem, as announced by its founder, Justin Sun. Through the integration of Bitcoin Layer two solutions, Tron seeks to decentralize and connect various types of tokens, including major stablecoins, with the Bitcoin network.
Justin Sun Outlines Vision for Merging Tron and Bitcoin Networks
Tron founder Justin Sun in a post on X has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to integrate Bitcoin Layer two solutions with the Tron network. Sun is seeking to change the way stablecoins and other tokens work in the Bitcoin ecosystem, a task Sun says Tron is well suited for.
"As the protocol behind the world's largest stablecoin market, with a value of $55 billion, and decentralized finance's Total Value Locked (TVL) of $22 billion, TRON will launch an innovative Bitcoin Layer 2 solution," said Sun. Under Sun's vision, Tron aims to decentralize and connect various types of tokens, including stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, with the Bitcoin network, Layer two solutions, and tokenization concepts such as Bitcoin Ordinals.
This integration is poised to facilitate seamless transactions and interactions between Tron's asset portfolio and the Bitcoin network, expanding the utility and reach of both blockchain systems. The roadmap, briefly described in Sun's post on X, outlines three main stages of development. The “α phase” focuses on improving cross-chain connectivity between Tron and Bitcoin, allowing for the transfer and exchange of Bitcoin and Tron-based assets.
In “Phase β,” Tron plans to create strategic partnerships with several Bitcoin Layer 2 protocols. These collaborations are expected to facilitate restaking initiatives and support the growth of the Bitcoin Layer 2 ecosystem. Tron token integration, including TRX, BTT, and non-fungible tokens ( NFT), into the Bitcoin network via cross-chain technology is the cornerstone of this stage, which aims to ensure interoperability between the two ecosystems. The “γ phase” centers around the opening of a comprehensive Layer two solution that integrates Tron, BTTC, and the Bitcoin network.
The protocol aims to combine the efficiency and low transaction costs of a proof-of-stake (PoS) system with the strong security features of a proof-of-work (PoW) and unspent transaction output (UTXO) model. Sun's announcement comes after Tron recovered from challenges such as the HTX, Poloniex, and Heco Bridge hacks. What's more important about this initiative is that Sun is trying to inject new life and financial resources into the Tron network.
After the roadmap was released, Bittorrent Token (BTT) saw a surge of more than 12%, reflecting optimistic market acceptance of Tron's Layer two integration plans.
