How did you get into DeFi?

The FTX contagion has brought about a few changes. First, sales of Ledger and Trezor are shooting through the roof as people take “not your keys not your coins” to heart and withdraw their assets off centralised exchanges. Next, with the growing FUD surrounding exchanges, some people are keen to give decentralised exchanges a shot.

However, aside from discussing how to swap Moons for ETH on SushiSwap and warning others about the high incidences of scams on Uniswap, it seems the case that DeFi protocols are seldom discussed on this sub. Hence, if you have rich lived experiences, could you share the impetus that made you venture out into the world of DEXs? Also what are the low-hanging fruit you think inexperienced investors should aim for so that they can taste small successes and assimilate into the DeFi world more smoothly?
