Taiko: From Promise To Disappointment - A Bumpy Start

The hyped crypto project Taiko recently suffered a major setback. A massive hack has deprived users of their Taiko tokens, causing a stir in the crypto community.

Overall, the project's launch was quite bumpy.

The hack and its consequences

On June 5, 2024, it was announced that the Taiko network had been hacked. According to reports on various social networks, attackers were able to gain access to numerous wallets through a vulnerability in the smart contract and steal large sums of tokens. Affected users reported significant losses. One Twitter user wrote: "I can't believe it. All my savings are gone, everything invested in Taiko and now it's just gone." Another commented on Reddit: "I made a huge mistake in trusting Taiko. That's it for me and crypto."

Many disappointed users are displeased on social platforms like Twitter and Reddit. One user on Reddit wrote: "This hack shows once again that crypto projects are far too often launched immaturely. Taiko totally screwed it up.” Another added, “I had so much hope in Taiko. Now I'm just disappointed and angry.”

Technical difficulties before that

The technical problems at Taiko did not begin with the hack. There had already been reports of irregularities and bugs in the network. Apparently, these fundamental problems in security and stability have not received the attention they deserve from the developers. Users complained about slow transaction times and error messages when using the platform.

One Twitter user summed it up like this: "The performance problems with Taiko were a warning sign. If only I had taken it more seriously."

The airdrop disaster

The hack was not the first setback for Taiko. The airdrop to early supporters was already chaotic. Many users had problems claiming their tokens. The site was overloaded and many users went away empty-handed. One user on Reddit wrote: "The airdrop event was a joke. Waiting for hours and getting nothing in the end. That really frustrated me." The shitstorm on Twitter was particularly notable.

Users who did the Galxe task received points but zero tokens. The team revealed in their discord that these Galxe tasks had been just for "fun and education". This is where false promises lead to disappointment and frustration among early supporters. Also, many users who participated in the Taiko testnet for around two years received nothing. Instead, the Taiko team included participants in the Ethereum ICO. This leads to the impression that Taiko cares more about potential institutional investors than community members.

My Final Conclusion

The road ahead for Taiko seems rocky, and how the team will respond to these challenges remains to be seen. The crypto community will closely monitor the project's next steps and decide whether they can continue to have faith in Taiko.
