Why I Am Minimizing My Use of X: It Is Not the Crypto Vibe I Signed Up For

For over a decade, Twitter was my digital home. It was my go-to for news, memes, and, most importantly, CryptoTwitter. Back in 2021, during the massive bull run, it was the place where frens shared alpha, shilled projects, and laughed at our bags together, no matter whether they were pumping or dumping. But now?

Since Elon Musk took over and turned it into “X,” the platform feels like a dead token with no liquidity left. There is no utility, and the vibe is straight-up bearish.

So yeah, I am scaling back. I am not rage-quitting, but I am definitely not sticking around for the Musk maxi echo chamber either. My account is staying cause it has been with me for over 10 years but I will treat it like a side project for now.

It Does Not Really Matter Anyway: Shadowbanned Since I Blocked Elon

Here comes the kicker: It is not like I was getting the best user experience on X to begin with. Ever since I blocked Elon Musk, Tesla, and SpaceX after my timeline was flooded with their posts, I have been shadowbanned anyway. Blocking him was my only escape from the endless Musk spam, but it turns out that was a fast track to being buried by the algorithm. So, keeping it low-key on X honestly just means me accepting the inevitable.

CryptoTwitter: When The Vibes Were Bullish

Back in the day, CryptoTwitter felt like the Wild West. It was chaotic but full of potential. Memes dropped faster than gas fees during a mint, new projects were shilled at the speed of light, and frens were always ready to share alpha, whether they were stacking bags or laughing at the next pump-and-dump scam.

But now? It is like watching a token slowly rug. X is no longer the space where we can have honest, open discussions about crypto, tech, and the future. Instead, it has become the home of political toxicity, and I am 100% over it.

Elon’s Version of Free Speech? A Tyrant’s Playground

Musk claims that he bought X to promote “free speech,” but what he has really done is open the floodgates for misinformation, hate, and right-wing narratives. The platform is now crawling with autocrats, tyrants, and far-right figures that Musk has openly supported, whether it is through giving them a voice or amplifying their messages.

Musk has been spotted buddying up to far-right leaders like Brazil’s Bolsonaro, India’s Modi, and Hungary’s Orban. He supports tyrants who, let's be real, have no interest in free speech unless it fits their own agenda. And all the while, Musk has silenced dissenters, whether it is banning users or suspending accounts that dare to challenge his political favorites.

This is not just about “freedom of speech”; it is about giving a platform to those who actively suppress others and push dangerous agendas. Free speech should be for everyone, not just the voices that help prop up autocrats. Musk has got the power to choose which voices get amplified and it is not the ones fighting for freedom or democracy.

CryptoFren to Musk Maxi: The Slow Rug of X

Since Musk took over, it feels like X has entered the longest bear market ever, not just in a financial sense but in every way possible. Engagements are down, quality is down, and most importantly, the crypto ethos that made Twitter the go-to space for digital innovation has vanished.

What is left? A bunch of Musk stans treating him like the next Satoshi. These Musk-maxis retweet his every thought, agree with his wildest takes, and even worship his erratic management of the platform like it is some kind of moonshot. Here is the truth: being a Musk maxi is not going to pump your bags or improve your life, it is just an endless cycle of toxicity.

I mean, you know things are really bad when half the timeline is dedicated to defending a billionaire who is literally enabling some of the most toxic figures in global politics. Meanwhile, actual crypto discussions get drowned out by the noise of echo chambers and political rants.

X’s Value? It Is Like Holding a Dead Token

Let's talk numbers, because Musk loves to talk numbers. X’s stock has tanked by about 80% since the takeover, talk about a rug pull of epic proportions. Brands and advertisers have bounced, users are leaving, and there is barely any value left in the platform. It is like holding a token with no liquidity, no roadmap, and no use case.

And on top of that, the user experience? Completely wrecked. Musk’s free speech promises were supposed to open the platform up, but all he has done is made it a toxic playground where misinformation and hate thrive. Seriously, it is like the alt-right version of a “pump and dump” scheme.

Recent Moves: Banning Dissent and Silencing Critics

If you need more evidence of Musk’s direction, look no further than his recent actions. He personally banned users and revoked blue checks from people who dared to criticize him. Far-right activist Laura Loomer got suspended for disagreeing with him. What happened to “free speech for all”?

It is clear: Musk’s version of “free speech” is only for the people who agree with him. If you are not in line with his political views, prepare to get suspended, banned, or have your verification badge stripped away. Sounds like centralized control at its finest, not free speech.

Why I Am Not Deleting (Just Minimizing)

I am not going to delete my Twitter account because this profile has been my digital home for more than ten years, and it is filled with memories, connections, and followers I truly respect. But I am definitely not engaging as much anymore. I cannot keep feeding into a platform that has turned into a circus run by a guy who is empowering some of the most toxic figures in global politics.

Instead, I will treat X like an altcoin in a bear market: low engagement, minimal time spent, and very little attention.

My Final Conclusion

But I am not out entirely, I am just looking for greener pastures. I am already hearing good things about decentralized platforms like Mastodon, Farcaster, and other crypto-native spaces that promise less toxicity and more open, honest conversations.

What about you? Where are you hanging out these days? If you have found a better space for sharing memes, talking crypto, and avoiding the Musk maxi echo chambers and parrots, drop me a comment. Let's find a better home and create something that actually feels like CryptoTwitter again.

The bear market may have taken over X, but the future is still bright for crypto, and there are plenty of places to find new frens. Let's find them.
