Sometimes being right is not very satisfying. About a year ago, I wrote an article questioning the future of Presearch. At the time, people still believed it would become the decentralized alternative to Google. The idea sounded fantastic: a privacy-focused search engine powered by blockchain and rewarded with crypto.
Unfortunately, a great idea alone is not enough. Recently, the Presearch team announced that the project is shutting down. Reading that announcement felt strangely familiar. Not because I was happy to be right, but because I would have seen the warning signs long before the final announcement.
It made me wonder if we are watching history repeat itself.
Crypto Projects Rarely Die Overnight
When people think of failed crypto projects, they usually think of spectacular collapses like Terra. But that is not how most projects disappear. They fade away.
Development slows down. The community becomes quieter. Social media turns into an echo chamber. The token price drifts lower year after year. Fewer people talk about the project, and eventually, even loyal supporters begin to move on.
By the time the official announcement arrives, the market has often moved on months or even years earlier. Presearch was not killed in a single day. It slowly lost relevance.
Brave Browser Gives Me Déjà Vu
Before anyone misunderstands me, I am not saying Brave is about to shut down. The browser is still being developed, and millions of people continue to use it every day.
But as someone who has followed Brave and BAT for years, I can not ignore the similarities that concern me.
$BAT was once one of the most exciting utility tokens in crypto. It promised to change online advertising and reward users for their attention. That narrative attracted a passionate community.
Today, I don’t hear many people talking about BAT anymore. The browser still exists. The token still exists. But the excitement seems to have disappeared. Maybe I am wrong this time. I honestly hope I am.
The Biggest Lesson Crypto Has Taught Me
One of the hardest lessons in crypto is accepting that not every promising project becomes a lasting success. Technology evolves, markets evolve, and users evolve.
If a project stops giving people a reason to be excited, somebody else eventually will. That is why I constantly question my own investments instead of falling in love with them. Being early doesn’t guarantee you’ll be right forever.
My Final Thoughts
Looking back, I would have preferred to be wrong about Presearch. It had an interesting vision, and I genuinely wanted it to succeed. But crypto does not reward good intentions. It rewards projects that continue building, continue innovating, and continue giving people a reason to stay.
As for Brave? Only time will tell. I sincerely hope this article ages much worse than my last one.
Ready to Start Your Own Crypto Journey?
If you are just getting started in crypto, my advice is simple: begin with the fundamentals. Learn about Bitcoin, understand how blockchain works, and use established platforms before chasing the latest trend. If you don’t have an account yet, you can start with Coinbase
Depending on your country and Coinbase’s current promotion, new users may be eligible to receive free Bitcoin after meeting the qualifying requirements. At the time of writing, many users in Europe can receive €30 in Bitcoin after investing €30, although promotions and eligibility may vary by region and can change over time.
The biggest opportunities in crypto rarely come from chasing hype. They come from staying curious, thinking independently, and being willing to change your mind when the facts change.
