In the last content about Splinterlands I briefly mentioned that in celebration of the launch of the new Arcane Conclave set and the successful end of the pre-sale of the packs, the Splinterlands team decided to give all players a Free Season in Wild Format. This and other events such as the departure of Chaos Legion to Wild, and the success of the conclave generated great impacts on some Splinterlands data, which are worth analyzing.
So, let's start by understanding the reasons that led the Splinterlands team to give a Free Wild Season to players, and then, understand what were the impacts of this decision and other facts that led to increases in certain metrics. Come find out everything now!
I'll be much appreaciated if you Upvote, Reblogs or give any Tips ( PIZZA 🍕, PGM 🎮, LOLZ 😆, ALIVE ❤️, etc ). Thanks and have good reading! 🍀
[ENGLISH VERSION]
Origins of the Wild Pass and why a Free Season of Wild?
For those who do not play in Wild Format or for a new player who does not yet know the new rules of this format and will have their first contact now, it is interesting to remember that in the past the Wild Format did not have any type of fee, but since this represented the non-existence of any type of barrier since anyone could play and this format allows any card to be used, it ended up negatively impacting the economy of game, because it allowed any account to join.
With that, those responsible for the development and sustainability of Splinterlands decided to implement what came to be called the Wild Pass, making players interested in playing in the Wild Format have to pay 2000 DEC. This caused players who did not have good decks and did not have a sufficient return in SPS to end up stopping playing the game. You can see this drop in player numbers in the graph above, which went from 7-8k to 5-4k. However, even if they were in the negative, they would still receive Glint, which allows them to improve their DECK and access rewards in the Glint Store.
This introduction is important to understand why the impact of the Wild Free Season is so strong in Splinterlands. The original idea is to provide this Free Season in Wild Format to allow all players to test the new mechanics of the Conclave set, such as Bloodline and the new abilities. This will allow players to test the new cards, try out new combinations in a simple way and also be able to see their synergy with cards from the game's older sets, such as Chaos Legion itself, which has just gone to Wild. However, perhaps
Impacts of a Free Wild Season
After understanding the entire context behind the Wild Pass and the reasons the Splinterlands team had for holding this Free Season, it remains to understand what the almost immediate Impacts of this decision were, remembering that a good part of these numbers must be related to the Arcane Conclave and the departure of the Chaos Legion to Wild as well. The first interesting fact is that the total number of battles doubled on May 16, going from 50k to almost 100k, with a large part of this increase coming from Wild battles.
We mentioned this reason earlier, which is the return of some players who were not playing due to the cost of the Wild Pass and returned for this Free Season. However, we also had players who were in Modern and had Chaos Legion decks, which should now be in Wild, and also Modern players who will test the cards in Wild. The latter lead to a drop in the number of battles in Modern, which is evident with the drop from 20k battles to 13k.
The second piece of information worth mentioning is the total number of transactions, which increased due to the increase in market transactions, but also due to the number of Wild battles. It went from an average of 50k daily transactions to a little over 100k. This leads us to wonder: Is there not a way to adjust the pass or some other strategy to have more players in Wild, but without compromising the game's economy?
