Splinterlands - The biggest hive game.jpg

In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the Hive blockchain network, in the anniversary celebration post, several events were added to collect tickets that will count as an entry in the Hive5 Raffle that will have a pool of 500HBD divided among 5 winners. These events were created to motivate the community to participate and engage, one of them having the objective of talking about a project that the user likes the most in Hive with the prize of 10 tickets.

So, since I like web3 games and create posts and content about them, I decided to talk about the biggest one in Hive, Splinterlands. Let's try to understand a little more about it and go through the history of this NFT game. Then, we will analyze Splinterlands' partnership with Hive and why they chose Hive as their main chain and why Hive decided to support Splinterlands. Finally, we will finish by talking a little about the future expectations for Splinterlands.

I'll be much appreaciated if you UpvoteReblogs or give any Tips ( PIZZA 🍕, PGM 🎮, LOLZ 😆, ALIVE ❤️, etc ). Thanks and have good reading! 🍀

Splinterlands - Project History

What's interesting about Splinterlands is precisely its origin, because it tells a lot about the founders' vision for the project. Frustrated with web2 card games, in which companies owned the cards and other assets that players collected throughout their journey with hours of gameplay, the concept of blockchain emerged to solve this issue.

While in conventional games, companies have full control over card issuance and even over players' cards, Splinterlands becomes a card game that uses Hive's Web3 technology along with the concept of NFTs to make cards the players' own assets, giving value to Ownership above all else. This gives protagonism to the player, the network user, allowing them to decide what to do with their card. They can play, they can trade with another user, they can sell, they can simply collect without the risk of having their asset taken or losing value with a new issuance.

Another great difference in Splinterlands is its game mechanics. In a modern world, where time is increasingly scarce, traditional Web2 card games that depend on long turns for the player to build their strategy end up being forgotten and become niche. With this in mind, Splinterlands focuses on the draft system, in which the focus is to choose the best combination to compose your team according to the mana limitations, elements and rules of each match. However, this system can end up becoming “tiring”, so new rules, game modes and mechanics are constantly added to make the game fun.

Unlike what usually happens with Web3 games that emerge and end up closing their doors after a crisis in the crypto market, Splinterlands, like Hive, have been in operation for years. In the case of Splinterlands, it emerged in 2018 and has already faced several bear markets, surviving each one and reinventing itself, changing its economy to adapt to new times.

With a noble vision of giving players ownership of their assets and giving value to their time by rewarding them with SPS/Glint tokens, there was a need for a blockchain network that had ideals and was capable of serving as the foundation for Splinterlands. This is where the partnership between Splinterlands and Hive comes in, which often ends up getting confused since Splinterlands is Hive's main game and has also attracted many users to the blockchain network, but without Hive working with its features, perhaps the game would not be able to exist in the current way.

Hive is often summarized in 3 words, but I like to use the word Community instead of Seamless. Thus, the network is FAST because its transactions are valid in 3 seconds. It is called Feeless because, unlike other networks where users spend a few dollars per transaction on Hive, when you stake the network token (Hive), it becomes HP and generates resource credits that are used to carry out transactions and will “regenerate” over time. Finally, the network’s biggest differentiator is that it is decentralized and at the same time united in its Community. Whether playing games on the network or creating posts, there is always a sense of unity among all Hive users. This set of characteristics is not seen in other blockchain networks.

Expectations for the Future of Splinterlands

The partnership between Hive and Splinterlands ended up becoming more evident after the Marketing Proposal was passed, giving a budget from Hive's DHF so that Splinterlands could do its Marketing and attract new players. After this proposal, Splinterlands seems to have joined Hive stronger than ever by adding “Powered by Hive” to its website. It’s worth to remember that this is good for both, since with the arrival of new players to Splinterlands, they will need to create an account on Hive and thus the network will increase its number of users, repeating what happened during the Game's Hype period.

In a recent Splinterlands Town Hall, the company that will work on the game's marketing was announced. Some changes to support the arrival of new players are already being made, including: Renting cards in Sets to facilitate access, adding an Ambassador system, creating help pages called Academy spread throughout the game, and revamping the game's image and design to make it more modern.

With all these and more updates that the game has undergone, if everything goes well and the Marketing Campaign is a success, we could see a massive influx of new users into Splinterlands and Hive. This could be the moment for this partnership to generate long-awaited results and make more people understand the importance and usefulness of web3 networks, which allow, among many other things, true Ownership of assets in games.
