The number of bitcoin ATMs is still growing. New bitomats are installed every day, all over the world. Their number has just increased to over 7,000, with devices in 75 countries. The United States is leading the race, but Poland is not lagging behind. Where are we.
7014 bitomats in 75 countries. Where the most?according to Coin ATM Radar data, there are currently at least 7014 cryptographic ATMs in the world, commonly known as bitomats, in which you can buy for cash or sell Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies - for comparison, in November 2019 there were "only" 6000.
in addition, according to data from the last seven days, about 12 new bitomats are installed daily. The fact that they are becoming more and more popular leads to positive thinking about mass adoption of cryptocurrencies.
Most machines only support the leading cryptocurrency, BTC, but many of them also allow transactions in several other cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Dash (DASH). there are also bitomats that support Zcash (ZEC), Monero (XMR) and Dogecoin (DOGE), but their number is relatively small.
At the moment, bitcoin ATMs are installed in 75 countries around the world. of the more than 7,000 existing machines, nearly 72% are in the United States - namely 5039. Second place is the northern neighbor of the USA, Canada, with 750 devices on board. Thus, North America is the clear leader in the adoption of cryptocurrencies, at least in terms of the number of bitomats.
It is worth noting that the world saw its first bitcoin ATM in Canada in 2013, when a company called Robocoin placed the machine in a Vancouver cafe.
Great Britain is the leader in Europe, where 303 bitomats currently operate - it also gives it third place in the world. In contrast, there are 57 bitomats in Poland, which places us 12th in the global ranking. in our country, of course, Warsaw (28) leads, followed by Kraków (12) and Wrocław (4).
What are bitomats?
Cryptographic ATMs are devices that resemble traditional ATMs, but in reality have little to do with them. With their help, you can buy a specific cryptocurrency - in most cases BTC - at the current exchange rate for cash. purchased funds are sent to the wallet address provided by the user.
Some bitomats, perhaps even the majority, also allow you to sell coins, of course in exchange for cash. In this case, send the cryptocurrency to the address provided by the device. after confirmation of the transaction, the funds are paid by the machine in cash.
An undoubted plus of bitcoin ATMs is greater privacy, but transaction commissions are generally higher than on the stock exchanges. a small number of devices in some countries also severely limits the use of bitomats.
