Twitter Tips to Make Money in Crypto

By Hamminy | cryptoinvesting | 18 Sep 2022

Twitter can be an amazing resource if you want to make money in crypto. It can also be a huge fuckin scam machine. I made it work for me, and here's how.

1. Cut the fat.

Your timeline is your lifeline. Odds are if you're just starting out as a crypto trader, you're following the wrong accounts. Happens to everyone. For some reason, the engagement farmers, shillers and straight up liars are the ones who get the most organic following. I swear, the most money I ever made in crypto was not through Bitboy tips. It was finding this Swedish guy through Twitter who posted vids about buying NFTs in his room with awful lighting. But he was legit.

How do you find the legit people? You start out by cutting out the illegitimate ones. And those are the ones getting all the attention.

The second you see some fuckin jackass post a Tweet like this one...

or this...

mute those motherfuckers immediately.

You might wonder how these useless pieces of shit get that much attention. I'll do another post on that someday. I've met them IRL, and there's a bigger narrative about the crypto space that allows these morons to flourish. But later on that.

2. Use Lists.

If you just follow everyone who's useful, you'll end up with a long timeline full of divergent opinions. The good traders all make money in different ways. It will confuse the hell out of you, especially if you are just starting out!

It's better to use Lists (look down the left hand side menu) to segment your interests. One list for defi, another for NFTs, another for infrastructure is how I do it. Different aspects of crypto pop up in different seasons, and curating your Lists makes sure you can drill down into the meta that's profitable very quickly.

3. Only like the stuff that actually makes you money.

Whatever you like on Twitter, you're going to get more of. If you like those humorous engagement tweets, you're going to get more of them. If you like informative tweets, you'll get more of them. Ideally, you're going to drill down into a few accounts you really like and like their stuff so you get a timeline full of not only useful information, but useful information from a specific perspective.

The perspective is just as important as the information. Like I mentioned above, people have different ways of making money. Once you cut the fat and curate lists, the next step for you is to focus in on people who share your trading vibe. For instance, I don't short (right now; I'm going to add that skill). So that's a perspective I don't need. So no matter how great a certain trader may be, if he's talking about shorting or the technologies associated with that (perpetual futures, etc.) I don't like the tweet.

4. Talking doesn't necessarily make you money.

Don't think that talking more is going to make you more. By the time 99% of Tweeters talk about something, the money's already been made. These people aren't on the inside. They just act like they are.

Once you stop getting involved with these people who make a job out of farming engagement from you, you'll realize that you don't have to go to these silly crypto meetups these influencers hold to make money. You don't have to be "accepted" into these communities. Alpha comes from getting to announcements first, not getting into popular groups.

Maybe I do more later. I do tips in real time on Twitter.
