crypto is a gang

Government, Gangs & Crypto Games

By Hamminy | cryptoinvesting | 20 Jun 2021

Just a thought piece...

The time crypto saves me is far more important than the monetary value save. They are correlated, yes, but it's a weak correlation in my book. In most cases, making more money means spending more time. The opposite is actually true in crypto if you just hold (which you should unless you're a pro trader).

When people save time, large nation-states suffer. Government prefers to be the entity regulating the timecash continuum. The rise of crypto, defi especially, means centralized government has lost control of this function.

You can expect government to try to take this power back, but not immediately. Why not? And will it succeed? Hmmm...

Government won't try to immediately push cryptonauts back on the ranch.

One, because they don't have enough information to technically overpower the space.

Two, they like to use a here kitty kitty approach first instead. They'll pretend to embrace you, like Miami providing easy crypto tax onramps or Wyoming and Texas providing a business structure for virtual entities. These are red herrings. If you pay your taxes in crypto, you admit you have crypto and open yourself up to more draconian measures later, because you can never un-admit this. And the mayor of Miami won't be the same person all the time. Similarly, if you KYC to earn the paltry 6% on Celsius or Gemini, or you fall into that silly Coinbase "$30 for learning crypto" bullshit, you'll eventually lose any slight advantages you have now.

Three, most people won't even give government the chance to subdue them. They'll gladly offer up their information and overpay their taxes because they believe the lie that government protects them. They'll eventually learn the truth when they get fucked in the ass, but not everyone gets fucked at the same time.

But when the gangs of crypto actually become a threat, and there are enough of them to siphon power away from centralized nation-states, they will try to do something about it. I think they'll be successful... to a point.

When Youtube went mainstream, it didn't kill TV or radio. Radio is still the number one communications technique in the world. Disruptive tech doesn't just immediately displace what came before it.

So talking about the success or failure of centralized nation-states to control crypto isn't really a thing. They'll bring all of the sycophants to heel — those who only wanted to protest government and bank powers to receive concessions. The traditional powers will pretend to concede and gradually destroy the powers they lend to crypto protest types.

Only those who truly want and understand how to create sovereignty from crypto will receive it. And we will end up with virtual nation-states in competition with the ones we have now. I don't care to pontificate on whether the virtual decentralized autonomous organization will eventually usurp the nation-state. It's well enough for me to understand there is a place for DAOs in the future that cannot be denied or overpowered.

There will be a fight before traditional governments and banks concede territory. We see it in the volatility that refuses to let bitcoin move past $40k. Moreover, they will also have some territory in the virtual space. Those who wish to continue to serve their masters can do so in any world they choose.

But for the rest of us, we will have a new world to explore and create within. I think our world will be the one that brings forth the greatest innovations, so I bet on it.

Bottom line: Don't be scared of government ever taking over crypto, and don't get so anarchist as to think DAOs will replace centralized nation-states. The reality lies somewhere in the middle. Choose your gang wisely.
