It's Time for Me to Leave the Banano Republic

After a series of decisions by the Banano developers, with which I don't agree (as listed below), I have decided that it is time for me to leave the Banano Republic. As soon as I have enough BAN in my wallet to meet the minimum for conversion, I will convert it to Nano (XNO) and be done with it. This saddens me, because I really like the community, but I can't align myself with nor support a project that acts in a manner that is contrary to my interests and principles.

Here, then, are the developments that have led me to this decision:

  • JungleTV adds SoundCloud Support (2022-08-16): I removed my tracks from SoundCloud at least several years ago, when they changed their terms of use to include some unpleasantness about IP ownership that I didn't like. Therefore, I will not support that platform/site, even if passively.
  • Banano is now tradeable through a regulated CEx that requires KYC (2022-08-30): Centralisation and KYC is anathema to the ideas that cryptocurrency is meant to uphold.
  • Kalium is now implemented in Go (2022-09-01): Go is a language developed by Google. I do not support centralised Big Tech companies, particularly those that seek to harm, manipulate and spy on their users in order to turn a profit. Therefore, I will not use nor support Go (including any software that does, either fully or partially).

Cryptographic Anarchy: (Mis)Adventures in Crypto

The content of this blog is exclusively to do with online privacy/security, cryptography and cryptocurrency: Understanding it, investing in it, mining it (in groups/crowds), developing/programming it, the social problems it aims to solve and the various ways to make more of it (or not, as various losses and failures happen). Let's get away from banksters, Capitalists and fiat, to an unbanked anarcho-syndicalist commune. || Banner image: Blogger's own.
