For a while, I've been meaning to set up a KuCoin account. Today, I finally did. I also used it to swap some of my BTC for Shiba Inu (SHIB), since I plan to learn Unity and dApp development in order to create a game that will pay out in SHIB.
The process took me longer than it should have to figure out what I needed to do to make the swap (which did not involve spot trading through that portion of the site, despite being pushed in that direction). It was a somewhat convoluted process, but I persevered and it was worth not having to go through KYC. (Since I don't have a new ID card, my passport is expired and my Driver's license doesn't have my full name on it, I made no headway with Atomic/Simplex, which I initially tried.) Even if I was willing to use that (which I'm not), it poses a number of problems. I'll be damned if I'm going to stand in a queue in a government department in order to get identifying documents I can use to buy crypto when one of the reasons I exchange fiat for crypto is to not have to rely solely on fiat issued by the government. At most, it knows the country I'm in based on the IP address of my ISP. I could (and probably should) use a VPN (such as Mullvad, since it accepts payment in crypto) to change that to somewhere in the EU, going forward.
In brief, here's what I did to get some SHIB:
1. Deposited BTC into my main wallet, from Luno.
2. Transferred BTC to my Trading wallet.
3. Converted BTC to USDT, since I can't convert directly to SHIB.
4. Convert USDT to SHIB.
5. Transferred SHIB back to my main wallet.
6. Withdrew my SHIB to my Atomic wallet.
Obviously, I lost quite a bit (500 000+ SHIB) in the process, seeing as it's on the ETH network (and losing 20-100% of your crypto in gas fees is par for the course). However, it's a price I'm prepared to pay for not having to go through KYC ever again. Besides, now that I've migrated from noise.cash to noise.app, I'm again earning tips in BCH. I should be able to reach 1 BCH in good time (about a year or so) at this rate. Plus, if I sell games at the right price to enough people, the initial loss will be recovered fairly quickly.
On that note, I'm off to learn Unity and start developing my first game, Shiba Inu Adventure: Such Adventure! Much Shiba!
