Good day everyone,
I hope you are all well and having excellent day, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things crypto. Today I will be looking at the recent announcement from the Mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, who is willing to accept Bitcoin donations in his bid to beat both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis in the Republican Presidential bid.
Francis Suarez Pro Bitcoin
The major of Miami, Francis Suarez, has always been considered a vocal crypto advocate. He recently announced that as part of his Presidential campaign he will officially be accepting donations in Bitcoin. This aligns with his longstanding view that cryptocurrencies are a positive thing, and that he will be a pro crypto president if elected. He noted that developing technologies such as Bitcoin will democratizing opportunities for wealth creation through means which are not susceptible to human being's ulterior motives, political goals, etc. The minimum donation is currently set at 0.00034 Bitcoin, which is roughly worth $1.
Suarez went on to criticise the Biden administration for their significant error's in having a total lack of understanding when it comes to cryptocurrencies. He went on to note how their approach had leaned towards regulation through enforcement, which is the opposite of what he would like to see in place. Suarez envisions the establishment of a clear regulatory framework above all else, and emphasised the importance of categorizing specific digital assets and implementing unambiguous guidelines and rules. This will be of particular importance when it comes to asset custody.
Suarez was also quick to show his opinion on a central bank digital currency (CBDC), claiming that his general feeling is that the federal government should have no access to individuals' financial information and holdings. He felt the decision behind a CBDC would be one of wanting to gain access to this information, and there believes such a move lacks genuine innovation and fails to offer any particularly ground-breaking attributes. He added that if elected as President he would move to ban CBDC's within the United States.
"The biggest mistake that this administration has made is they don't understand crypto, so they have gone to a regulated-by-enforcement mechanism as opposed to set the ground rules. You have to be able to classify certain digital products, you have to be able to have certain guidelines and rules that are clear with respect to the custody of assets."
Suarez in the Race
Back in June Suarez announced he would be throwing his hat into the ring for the Presidential Candidacy race, joining other GOP nominations which include former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Suarez is up against it, but his decision to allow donations made in Bitcoin is no surprise to anybody aware of his view on crypto. He has an extensive history of supporting digital assets as the mayor of Miami, especially Bitcoin.
Constantly Suarez has expressed his belief that Bitcoin has the potential to democratize wealth distribution for all Americans, and leaving an incredible and indelible mark on the future. Suarez has already pledged to transform Miami into a Bitcoin hub, and was the first US politician to receive a part of his salary in bitcoin. His commitment to the digital revolution has been a strong part in his campaign, although it has not always been a smooth journey.
Back in 2021 Suarez launched MiamiCoin (MIA), which he planned on using to provide regular bitcoin-based stimulus to Miami residents. The dividends would be distributed to corporate shareholders, however the value of the coin has dropped over 95% since its release. Suarez still maintains a robust engagement with the industry, and although the MIA coin did not work as planned, his emphasis on engagement with the industry will be a major selling point as part of his candidacy. He feels a president with an adept comprehension of crypto and artificial intelligence is what the nation requires.
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
