Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto related. In this post I will be looking at the latest developments surrounding both Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao and Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF).
Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao
The former CEO of Binance Changpeng Zhao has been ordered not to travel out of the United States by a United States judge. This is ahead of his criminal sentencing which is due to take place in late February 2024. It was on the 19th of December 2023 that Judge Richard Jones issued the sealed order denying Zhao’s “request for permission to travel" in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle. CZ has been granted a $175 million bail while he awaits his sentencing for a variety of violations of banking laws.
The details of the motion have not been made available to the public, but according to both CZ and his defence team, they have sought to seal documents related to his travel outside of the United States. They cited this on the inclusion of private and sensitive medical information about one of Zhao’s children.
This is not the first time CZ has had his movements restricted by the courts. Last month Judge Richard Jones made an order for a condition allowing Zhao to return to return to his home in the United Arab Emirates be stayed until the court resolves the government’s motion for review. This was due to prosecutors raising concerns of Zhao being a flight risk, while also citing his wealth and the lack of an extradition treaty between the UAE and the U.S.
The medical information provided to the court under seal in Zhao’s case remains undisclosed but it is known that he has three children with a former talk show host and co-founder of Binance, Yi He. CZ was forced to step down as CEO of Binance following a lengthy investigation that concluded with a substantial settlement with various U.S. agencies and Binance / its former CEO.

Sam Bankman-Fried
While it has long been speculated that Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) would face a second trial for his crimes in charge of FTX and Alameda Research, United States prosecutors are reluctant to pursue it at this moment in time. SBF was convicted last month for embezzling funds from FTX customers but it seems his is unlikely to face further prosecution on additional charges. This was revealed in a letter submitted to a federal court in Manhattan.
The prosecutors noted how important it was to conclude the case while prioritizing the public interest over the need for a second trial. They noted that the upcoming sentencing of Bankman-Fried, scheduled for March 28, 2024, would address the necessary aspects such as forfeiture and restitution for the victims of his crimes. SBF was found guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy and misappropriating $8 billion in customer funds, driven by greed.
The charges led to his conviction and his faces six other charges, including campaign finance violations and conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business. These charges were initially separated from the first trial as Bahamian authorities have not yet consented to a trial on these remaining charges.
Bankman-Fried faces a potentially lengthy prison sentence as U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, presiding over the case in Manhattan, will determine his fate. With little enthusiasm from the prosecution for a second trial, they have argued that it would not impact the existing sentencing as Judge Kaplan can consider all of Bankman-Fried’s actions in determining the penalty. While he has been convicted, SBF has plans to appeal any sentence handed down.
Three of the key witnessess against SBF in his trial, Caroline Ellison, CEO of Alameda Research, Gary Wang, co-founder of FTX, and Nishad Singh, FTX engineering chief, may not face any jail time at all. The trio admitted to participating in fraudulent activities under Bankman-Fried’s direction which included the transfer of billions of dollars in FTX customer funds to Alameda Research.

Big news coming out for both the former CEO's of Binance and FTX respectively. It will be interesting to watch how this news develops into the new year.
Have a great day,
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
