Week Predictions & Final Results
So in terms of the predicted scores, I got 2/10 correct scores this weekend. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 8/10 correctly this weekend.
Predicted: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Result: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Roerslev, Wissa - Jackson, Disasi
The Bees were more than capable of matching Chelsea during the opening 25 minutes of this one, with Chelsea struggled against Frank's side. However once the first went in then Brentford began to fade. Fernandez managed to play a pinpoint pass to Jackson, who rounded Flekken before seeing his shot cleared off the line by Zanka. However he soon got his goal when Jackson headed in Gusto's cross in the 35th minute. Chilwell had an effort blocked while Jackson had another one saved as Chelsea looked for a second before the break. Frank got his side together during the break as they remerged with renewed vigour and found themselves level in the 50th minute when Reguilon's blocked shot landed for Roerslev to score. Janelt hit the foot of the right post moments later, while Palmer put a chance wide for Chelsea. In the 69th minute Reguilon's cross from the left bounced off Onyeka before Wissa produced a brilliant acrobatic volley finish to take the lead. Reguilon then headed off the post as Brentford looked to seal the win, but in the 83rd minute Flekken fumbled a shot which led to a Chelsea corner and Disasi planted Palmer's cross into the net. More dropped points for Chelsea and questions remain over Pochettino's future, while Frank's side missed the chance to gain three big points in their battle to keep clear of the relegation zone.
Predicted: Everton 1-1 West Ham
Result: Everton 1-3 West Ham
Gomes - Zouma, Soucek, Álvarez
The Toffees started well with Doucoure's cross just evading Beto early on, while Alvarez forced a save from Pickford and Mavropanos headed wide. The biggest chances came Everton's way as McNeil played in Beto but his low shot was too weak and he should have made better of the one-on-one situation. Beto's pass to Doucoure bounced up and hit Zouma in the arm later in the first half and the referee awarded a penalty. Beto stepped up, but his effort was saved by Areola. After the break Areola was forced in a save from range by McNeil, but in the 56th minute Beto headed in from Garner's pinpoint centre to give Everton the lead. Six minutes later West Ham drew level when Zouma headed in from a corner. Beto drew a save from Areola before Soucek made a goal-line block to stop Doucoure scoring following a corner. Calvert-Lewin forced a save as Everton looked for a winner, but West Ham scored in the first minute of stoppage time when Soucek chested a Kudus cross before firing it in. From an Everton corner West Ham broke through Bowen, who played in Álvarez to seal the win in the 5th minute of stoppage time. Everton have had over 20 shots in a Premier League home game five times this season but have now lost three of them. West Ham meanwhile will look to bring this form into their Europa League last-16 tie against Freiburg on Thursday.
Predicted: Fulham 3-1 Brighton
Result: Fulham 3-0 Brighton
Wilson, Muniz, Adama Traore
Brighton started brightly against a Fulham team still soaring after their win at Old Trafford last weekend. In the 21st minute Webster fallowed Bassey's ball forward allowed Muniz in and the Brazilian found Wilson to curl past Steele. In the 32nd minute Reed and Pereira worked the ball to Wilson, who in turn crossed for Muniz to score. Brighton looked for a response after the break with De Zerbi making changes but they struggled to carve open the hosts. Fulham killed the game off in the first minute of injury time when Gross got caught in possession and Decordova-Reid found Traore to score low into the corner. Fulham made it back-to-back wins and Muniz has been in lethal form since the start of February, scoring five league goals. Brighton meanwhile have been missing their scoring touch, having failed to find the back of the net in five of their previous eleven games. It was also Adama Traore's first league goal for Fulham.
Predicted: Newcastle 1-2 Wolves
Result: Newcastle 3-0 Wolves
Isak, Gordon, Livramento
Howe's side ran riot at home against Wolves to vanquish their recent struggles as demonstrated in their FA Cup penalty win over Blackburn last week. Although Wolves started well it was Newcastle who took the lead in the 13th minute when Gordon broke and the ball reached Guimaraes, whose shot was deflected and headed in by Isak. Burn then shot wide but in the 33rd minute Newcastle go their second when Gordon fired in after Kilman and Sa failed to clear the ball. Sa and Neto were taken off as precautions at the break, with O'Neil hoping to have them back next weekend. Fraser and Sarabia forced saves from Dubravka while Willock had a headed cleared off the line by Toti Gomes. In the second minute of stoppage time as Livramento found himself getting through the Wolves defence before scoring. Howe got his 100th Premier League win as a manager in this one, while Wolves have won just one of their nine away meetings with Newcastle in the Premier League era.
Predicted: Nottingham Forest 1-3 Liverpool
Result: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool
Núñez
Liverpool entered this game knowing their title rivals did not play until the following days and a win would leave a healthy lead on the chasing pack. With multiple starts out injured Gomez began in a defensive midfield role as Liverpool had more of the ball. Clark found space limited in midfield while Diaz had an effort saved by Murillo during the opening half as Forest dug in to frustrate their visitors while causing problems on counters. Elanga had broken through on Kelleher and looked set to score, but the keeper saved well with his leg. In the second half Liverpool thought they had the lead when Robertson saw an effort blocked by Omobamidele with the goalkeeper beaten. Klopp made changes, but Elanga was causing trouble as he hit into the side netting. Gakpo had been wasteful upfront but substitute Núñez made the breakthrough in the ninth minute of injury time. After a corner was not cleared, Mac Allister dinked the ball in for the striker to head home. There was plenty of anger from the Forest coaching staff after the game ended given they had a penalty call turn down moments before conceding, but in the end Klopp's side continue their march in three competitions. They face Sparta Prague on Thursday before hosting Manchester City next weekend.
Predicted: Tottenham 3-2 Crystal Palace
Result: Tottenham 3-1 Crystal Palace
Werner, Romero, Son - Eze
Glasner was handed a tough task for his first away game as Palace manager, but his side put in a solid defensive performance during the first half. The only real chance of note for Postecoglou's side came when Werner was played through by Son's pass but the German produced a weak shot after failing to round keeper Johnstone. Son hit the base of the post early into the second half but Palace took a shock lead in the 59th minute when Eze won a free-kick before firing it into the goal past Vicario. Johnson should have levelled minutes later when he blasted over, but in the 77th minute he found Werner for the German to level the scores. Three minutes later Spurs were ahead when Maddison's outside-of-the-foot cross set up Romero to score. In the 88th minute Son broke away and made sure to apply the finish as Spurs ran out comfortable winners to keep their top four hopes alive. Glasner meanwhile has a big task ahead to move this Palace side up the table.
Predicted: Luton 1-4 Aston Villa
Result: Luton 2-3 Aston Villa
Chong, Morris - Watkins x2, Digne
Villa made the brighter start here and were rewarded in the 24th minute when Watkins headed in from Bailey's corner. It marked the strikers 25th Premier League goal involvement this season, the most of any player in the league. He hit the post from a Bailey cross soon after, but got his second in the 38th minute when Luiz played a quick free-kick to release Watkins for a low shot into the goal. Townsend headed over in first-half stoppage time as it was all too easy for Villa. After the break Luton had a renewed energy about them and got one back in the 66th minute when Chong scored after Cash had done well to deny Burke's effort from a corner. Luton were level on 72 minutes when Doughty's free-kick was headed in by Morris. Luton should have gone ahead when Morris wasted from a Barkley cross by heading straight at Martinez. Emery made a quadruple change and two of them were involved in the winner, with Diaby crossing for Digne to score in the 89th minute. Mengi headed over late on as Luton looked to get level again but Villa held on for a huge win in their Champions League push. Luton meanwhile will hold hopes of survival yet as their spirited performance fell just short in this one.
Predicted: Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth
Result: Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth
Kluivert, Semenyo
The Clarets made a bright start in front of their own fans, as Taylor had to clear from under his bar under pressure from Semenyo. Bournemouth soon took control and took the lead in the 13th minute when a Cook long ball bounced in the Burnley box and Kluivert was alert to score. Burnley looked to battle back as Esteve miskicked when in on goal. Vitinho and Odobert also saw efforts go over. Larsen had a direct free-kick go inches away from going in as Neto stopped the ball crossing the line. Vitinho also headed over before the break but Bournemouth started the second half in much stronger fashion. Solanke forced a save while Tavernier hit the side netting. Cullen curled straight at Neto and soon after had the ball over the line but it was ruled out for a foul by Larsen. Solanke twice played in Semenyo but he put both efforts wide of goal. In the 88th minute Cook played in Semenyo and this time he found the back of the net to seal the win. The loss further pushes Burnley closer to relegation, while Bournemouth finally get back to winning ways as Iraola's side look to put further distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Predicted: Manchester City 2-0 Manchester United
Result: Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United
Foden x2, Haaland - Rashford
United got off to the best of starts here, with Fernandes holding up the ball from an Onana long pass in the 8th minute before laying it off for Rashford to smash home a beautiful goal. From there United did everything to hold on, with City taking 18 shots in the first half trying to get level. Of them all it was Haaland who wasted City's best chance when he put the ball over after Foden headed the ball to the Norwegian. After the break City got their goal when Foden scored in the 56th minute, but Ten Hag was fuming due to a foul on Rashford moments before. Rashford had to go off with injury and in the 80th minute Foden combined with Alvarez before firing low past Onana for his second. Amrabat lost the ball to Rodri in the first minute of stoppage time, who in turn played in Haaland for the striker to score. United were out of ideas by the end of the game and Ten Hag's side still languish outside of the top four. City meanwhile remain on the heels of Liverpool with the top two facing off at Anfield next weekend.
Predicted: Sheffield United 0-4 Arsenal
Result: Sheffield United 0-6 Arsenal
Ødegaard, Bogle OG, Martinelli, Havertz, Rice, White
A fast start saw Arsenal hit the post in the opening minutes but it only took until the 5th minute for Arsenal to score. Ødegaard was on hand to tap in from close range after some good work from Rice to pull the ball back to him. In the 13th minute Arsenal got their second when Saka got past Trusty down the right before he cross was turned into his own net by Bogle. Two minutes later it was three when Martinelli played the ball to Kiwor, who laid it back for the Brazilian to fire in. Norwood came off and Osborn came on as an extra defender for the Blades but Arsenal did not let up and in the 25th minute it was four when Havertz finished low after Martinelli set him up in the area. In the 39th minute Rice make it five when he swept home from a Saka cross. After the break Arsenal continued to dominate, with White scoring a beautiful curling effort in the 58th minute after Havertz laid the ball off for the right back. Sheffield United could rarely got the ball or cause the Arsenal defence much problems, Kiwior and Jesus both wasted chances late on but there were no more goals. Arsenal keep hot on the heels of Liverpool and Manchester City with a much better goal difference having now scored at least five goals in three consecutive away games in the Premier League. Sheffield United are the first side in English football (top four tiers) to concede 5+ goals in four successive home games in all competitions while also being the first side in English football to lose three consecutive home league games by at least 5 goals.
