Good day everyone,
I hope you are all well and had an excellent week, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things sports. In this post I will be looking at the recent update by the International Centre for Sports Studies’ (CIES) football observatory, who have published their list of football players transfer values. These values are based on a number of factors. With the January Transfer window well and truly open, it is important to get a gauge of the real world value of some of the players in the market.
Methodology
The list created by the CIES calculates player values from a number of factors, including the players age, contract length, and current club. It gets updated every six months or so for the opening of the transfer windows in the summer and winter months, and since last June the estimated number of players with a value above €100 million has almost doubled. Last summer it stood at 20 while currently there are 39 players with a value above €100 million.
This reflects the sharp inflation in player prices, noted in the fact player number 100 is valued at €71.3 million compared with €53.4 million in June 2023. CIES Football Observatory statistical model accurately predicts the fees that clubs would likely have to pay to buy a player out of their contract, and this is also based of prices invested in the past for players with similar characteristics. The estimates do not include eventual buy-out clauses and are just based on a value from 100% of the economic rights of players. The values also include both fixed and conditional sums, also known as add-ons.
Top Players Values
The list shows the dominance of the English Premier League, with 51 of the top 100 valued players plying their trade in England. After that it is Spain with LaLiga (20), the German Bundesliga (12), the Italian Serie A (8), the French Ligue 1 and Portuguese Primera Liga (both 4) and the Brazilian Serie A (1) who make up the remainder of the list. The image below shows the top 20 players in terms of transfer market values in world football.
As shown above it is Jude Bellingham, who moved to Real Madrid last summer for £133.9m, at the top of the list. His value has almost doubled to make him worth £267.5m. Next on the list is Erling Haaland, with an estimated value of £251.2m following a historic season where he broken the Premier League goal scoring record while helping Manchester City win their first Champions League as part of a treble.
Fellow Real Madrid stars, and Brazil teammates Vinicus Júnior and Rodrygo come next on the list, with English duo Saka and Foden making up the top six. Barcelona starlet Gavi sits ahead of Álvarez, Musiala, and Odegaard to make up the top ten most valuable players. It is notable that superstars such as Mbappé, Messi, and Ronaldo have not made the top twenty. In terms of the Frenchman, this is because his contract is due to expire in six months. As for the two prolific Ballon D'Or winners, they are both in their mid-to-late thirties now and their values have significantly diminished.
On a club by club basis, Manchester City come out top of the charts with a whopping 11 of their players included. Next up Arsenal, followed by Barcelona and Real Madrid. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, along with Brighton, Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Newcastle all have players feature in the top 100.
Nationality wise, England is the most represented with 13 Three Lions players on the list. They are followed by Brazil with 12, France with 11, Spain with 10, and Portugal with 9. Some will argue that English Premier League players have an 'English Tax' applied and that could be a considerable factor when their transfer value was calculated, along with the clubs they represent.
Interestingly, the only players represented from outside the top four leagues in Europe (English Premier League, Spanish LaLiga, German Bundesliga, and Italian Seire A) were PSG’s Mbappe and Portuguese side Benfica’s Antonio Silva. Endrick from SE Palmeiras is also included on the list, but he has a future transfer to Real Madrid already arranged for a staggering €35million plus another €25m in achievable variables. According to the list he is valued at €82.7m.

There you have it. The top valued players in world football according to CIES Football Observatory. Most are unlikely to move club anytime soon, and most clubs could not afford them even if they wanted. However, never say never in football. It should be an interesting month and many of these players will be in demand one way or another so keep an eye out for any mouth-watering transfer fees that would be required to purchase them.
Have a great day.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
