The Stronghold $SHx community is gearing up for its 5th governance vote, and it’s a big one! This vote, happening soon, could change how $SHx votes are handled across different blockchains. Here’s what you need to know in plain terms.
What’s the Vote About?
The question is simple: Should all $SHx governance votes from Stellar and Ethereum be recorded in one smart contract on the Stellar ledger? A smart contract is like a digital rulebook that runs on the blockchain—secure and automatic. Right now, votes are split—Stellar uses transactions, and Ethereum uses Snapshot.org. This vote could bring everything together using Stellar’s Soroban smart contract system, which is fast and affordable.
When Is It Happening?
Here’s the schedule:
- Snapshot Time: March 12, 2025, at 8:00 PM GMT. This is when they’ll check how many $SHx tokens you hold to figure out your voting power.
- Voting Starts: March 17, 2025, at 8:00 PM GMT.
- Voting Ends: March 21, 2025, at 8:00 PM GMT.
- Results Announced: April 2, 2025, at 8:00 PM GMT.
If the vote passes, the changes will roll out sometime between April and June 2025.
Why Does It Matter?
Putting all votes in one smart contract could make life easier for $SHx holders. Instead of tracking votes across two systems, everything would be in one place. This could:
- Make voting smoother and clearer.
- Help Stronghold build better tools, like a governance hub to see votes and manage funds.
- Keep things secure and organized.
Stronghold is also working on a new voting portal, no matter how the vote goes, to give everyone a central spot to vote and check past decisions.
How Will It Work?
This is a big change to the $SHx rules, so it needs strong support:
- At least 25% of active $SHx tokens must vote (that’s the quorum).
- Two-thirds of those votes (66.7%) need to say “yes” to pass.
Stronghold has said they’ll vote with the majority if needed to make sure the community’s choice happens.
What’s Next?
The snapshot is just days away, so $SHx holders should get ready to have their say. If it passes, Stronghold will build the smart contract and switch things over by mid-2025. If it doesn’t, they’ll still improve the voting system with a new hub. Either way, this vote is a chance for the community to shape $SHx’s future.
