From the news I learned about yesterday's Havest.finance "hack". I became interested, mainly because there was quite a lot of hype around Harvest recently and great many people seem have poured their millions into Harvest's pools lurking for triple-digit returns.

As far as I could understand, the "hacker" neither cracked Harvest's code, nor did he steal their "godmode keys" or anything like that. The guy "simply" executed a little series of crypto transactions. That's how Harvest themselves describe it:

On October 26, 02:53:31 AM +UTC, an attacker executed a theft of funds from the USDC and USDT vaults of Harvest Finance. The attacker exploited an arbitrage and impermanent loss that influences the value of individual assets inside the Y pool of Curve.fi, which is where the funds of Harvest’s vaults were invested. 

Well, I really appreciate that Harvest guys honestly accepted their responsibility for the indecent and promised the lesson having been learned.

But yo, guys! Why do you call it a theft? What that chap did is that very "yield farming", "yield hacking", or whatever you call it. He did exactly the same thing you all are trying to do -- only pretty much better than you...

One is yield hacking and another is theft.

Is it a theft because he didn't want to play by your rules, to pour $24M in your pool and to watch his $FARM growing as more newbies FOMO-ing in? Is it a theft because he took the money from other guys? Arbitrage, flashloans and "impermanent" loss are some essential parts of the current DeFi game. Exploiting inefficiencies of markets is the thing every trader, speculator, arbitrageur does on daily basis. We can blame the guy for price manipulation, at most -- if we assume that the "price manipulation" at a fundamentally unregulated market is something bad.

Well, the wording is not that important. Only the yield farmers should fully understand the real rules and that always there is a possibility that some better farmers are at the field.
