In recent days, the tension between Google and the cryptocurrency community has skyrocketed after several prominent accounts have been banned videos related to crypto and blockchain from their youtube channels; the situation returned to normal within a couple of days, when on youtube's twitter he intervened to reassure everyone stating that it was just a mistake, but now the tension level rises again, this time, however, to arouse the ire of the community was not google but Apple.
According to reports on December 28, in fact, coinbase could be forced by the app store policies to remove from its wallet the functionality that allowed users to access the Dapp ethereum via browser. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong commented on the post (published on reddit on December 28) stating that:
As Coinbase CEO I think what we're seeing is pretty serious; Apple seems intent on eliminating Dapps from the App Store and, probably, this would also extend to other portfolios (Trust, Argent, Metamask) as well as Coinbase and, in my opinion, this is a very great threat to the ecosystem
We must also consider, continued Armstrong, that many users manage millions of dollars through some of these Dapps, so if Apple really decides to ban them from its store this will inevitably mean that they will no longer be able to do it using an iPhone.
Cointelegraph reports that this news came shortly after Google banned the Ethereum wallet and the DApp MetaMask browser from its Android application distribution platform Google Play; however, as emerged from a quick check, at least for now, MetaMask is still available on the google store. However, it was the project team that reported the removal of MetaMask and the reason, apparently, would be politics, the google policy that prohibits mobile mining; MetaMask's appeal seems to have been rejected, however this Dapp does not allow mobile mining and probably also in this case it was a trivial misunderstanding and in fact, to date, MetaMask is still included in the Google Play store.
Many users, however, have highlighted how the Dapps substantially represent competitors for both google and Apple, consequently, wanting to think wrongly, the feeling is that certain decisions have as their ratio the attempt to hinder the growth of particularly avid competitors.
