Although the crypto-community has changed a lot in recent years, in my opinion for the worse, if there is one thing that hasn't changed is the altruism that has always characterized this world; always on the front lines to support the populations in difficulty this time the bitcoiners have moved to help the Australian people struggling with the numerous fires that are devastating the country.
As proof of this, several addresses have already been opened to donate bitcoins to Australians and massively activated to promote the spread of the hashtag #AustraliaBurning on twitter in order to carry out, in their respective countries, the work of raising awareness not only on the Australian tragedy. (because it is a tragedy) but also in favor of the fight against climate change.
On the occasion of the tweet with which Justin Sun communicated that he wanted to donate 1mln of dollars to Greta Thunberg not all this generosity always represents true altruism but, in some cases, these are trivial marketing maneuvers aimed at obtaining visibility; net of the fact of using charity to make an increasing number of bitcoin people known, it is also true that the community, which as shown by numerous reports, mainly consists of young people between 25 and 34 years of age, is precisely for personal reasons more sensitive to certain issues.
That millennials are, as a generation, normally more open to change and more altruistic than previous generations prove to be is a well-known thing, consequently certain phenomena do not concern the crypto-community as such, but they are more than other attributable to a purely generational issue.
It should also be added that the propensity for charity by bitcoiners has also been facilitated by the introduction of a new opportunity in the United States, a country in which it is possible to deduct taxes from cryptocurrency donations; this makes donations particularly attractive for that part of the community that has more liquidity and makes it easier to create fundraisers even for very high amounts.
Waiting for Europe to wake up and understand that even through this kind of tax initiatives the sector is adequately regulated we can only hope that the situation in Australia will return to normal as soon as possible and that the country will be able to recover as much as possible soon from what will remain in the history books as one of the worst calamities that have affected the former British colony.
