I Let an AI Handle My Trading Instructions — Here’s What Happened

In the old days trading meant sitting in front of charts, drawing support and resistance lines, checking indicators, setting alerts and flipping to and from various tools.

But now, AI is beginning to turn that on its head.

Rather than hand coding each and every little thing, you can just speak to an AI and instruct it what you need to analyze or do and let it work with the trading platform.

A platform that I've been looking into recently is TrueNorth, an agentic brokerage platform with an AI assistant on top.

Actually, the fun bit is not the AI chatbot, it's the whole premise.

What's interesting is that the AI actually works with your trading environment.

So, What Exactly Can You Ask It To Do?

Think of the AI as a trading assistant sitting beside you.

You can type something like:

“Find an interesting setup on this chart.”

Or:

“What are the important support and resistance levels?”

Or even:

“Set an alert if the price reaches this level.”

Instead of manually going through multiple menus, the AI can understand the instruction and help you complete the task.

This makes the experience feel much more conversational.

You don't necessarily need to know exactly which button to press.

You just explain what you're trying to accomplish.

AI Can Help You Understand the Chart

I found one of the interesting things of theirs is that you can ask direct questions on the market you are interested in.

You can request the AI to search for:

Support and resistance
Potential breakouts
Trend direction
Entry possibilities
Stop-loss levels
Take-profit ideas
Technical patterns
Possible trade setups

The key factor is that AI is not taking the place of the trader.

It's helping reduce the amount of manual chart work.

Decisions are left to you as to whether or not a trade is a good idea.

It's an important difference, though.

AI can process information in a split second but it won't necessarily understand the next move in the market.

You Can Also Ask For Trade Ideas

Now comes the fun part.

You can ask the AI to analyse the current setup, instead of spending a few minutes studying a chart and trying to determine what's going on.

For example:

“Is there a Bullish Pattern developing?”

The AI can then describe what it observes and, if applicable, suggest the factors that would make it more intriguing.

You can follow that up with another question:

“Where is the set-up going to become invalid?”

Or:

“If the current structure is set up, what would be a reasonable stop-loss?”

This helps to simulate the feeling of interacting with a human assistant rather than a typical trading software.

However, it's important to note that any trading idea generated by an AI system ultimately needs to be verified by the trader before putting real capital into trading.

The Part I Like Most: Alerts

One little thing can really make a huge difference.

You can use the AI to assist in setting an alert to a particular price or condition.

Typically, you would need to:

Open chart - click on the Alerts option - input price - set the alert - store the alert.

The idea is a lot simpler with an agentic interface.

You instruct the AI on what you desire.

For example:

“Let me know when bitcoin hits this price.”

That's a much more natural approach to dealing with trading software.

Add up all these little time savings when you're watching several markets.

It Can Also Help With Trade Management

The point of trading isn't just about finding a trade that suits you.

It is also very important to manage the position after it has been placed.

One AI assistant may be able to assist you in considering questions like:

I have no stop-loss!
What kind of ball do I want to hit?
Is there a significant movement in the trade?
What are the risk/reward?
What if the price is below this?

You don't need to keep doing calculations by hand all the time, you can use the AI to arrange it.

But again, there's a big difference between assistance and decision-making.

I would personally use AI suggestions as another source of input and not as a reason to blindly place a trade.

The Trading Journal Is Another Interesting Feature

Journaling is one aspect of trading that traders often underestimate.

The strategy can be the best known in the world but if you don't monitor your trades it's hard to determine what you are doing right or wrong.

TrueNorth also offers features from the trading-journals which may aid in organizing your trading.

You can potentially track things such as:

Best Trading Day

At a time when you've been successful in your trades.

Worst Trading Day

Helpful to determine times or circumstances when you are prone to making bad choices.

Hold Time

Typical length of time that jobs are left open.

Win Rate

The number of times that you've made a successful trade.

Equity Curve

The graph showing the performance of your account over time.

Time of Day

This can be of great value because some traders are better at the market during specific time periods than others.

Suppose you would realize that most of your profitable trades take place during a specific time and most of the losses occur during late night trading.

There are things that a journal can tell you.

But There's One Thing Traders Should Remember

AI enhances the ease of use of trading software.

It doesn't make trading easy.

There's a temptation to think:

“What if AI can analyze the markets, do I still need to learn how to trade?”

I don't feel this is the best approach.

With AI, one can process information.

Can interpret graphs.

It can assist to automate repetitive tasks.

It can even assist you organize your trading information!

But markets are still volatile.

A system generated by AI may be unsuccessful.

A breakout could turn into a fakeout.

A trade may look great on paper but fail to perform.

That is why the trader should still know the basics of risk management, position sizing and his or her trading approach.

Why Agentic Trading Could Become Interesting

This is likely the larger narrative of platform-type companies such as TrueNorth.

We're starting to transition from the days of software that requires you to instruct the computer on every move to software that is growingly able to inform the computer how to get to the desired end state.

That's a major difference.

Instead of:

“Open this menu.”

“Select this indicator.”

“Set this parameter.”

“Create this alert.”

The future will be more like:

“Keep an eye on this market and let me know when these conditions will be present.”

It is much more human-like for humans to interact with technology.

This is especially true of trading, since traders are involved with a lot of information on a daily basis.

My Take

I'm not convinced AI will replace traders.

But I am convinced that traders who know how to use AI effectively could have a serious advantage over those still doing everything manually.

The biggest benefit isn't necessarily that AI will magically give you better trades.

It's that it can save time, organize information and reduce repetitive work.

And that may ultimately be the real value of agentic trading.

Instead of spending hours fighting with your trading platform, you can spend more time doing what actually matters:

understanding the market and managing risk.

The technology is still developing, but this is definitely one of the more interesting directions trading platforms are moving toward.

Would you trust an AI agent to analyze your trades or set up trading alerts for you? Or would you still want to do everything manually?

Crypto Stuff Im Trying to Learn

I still have a lot to learn about cryptocurrencies because I've only recently started. On my blog, I share my learnings on everything from wallets and coins to seemingly strange subjects that make sense after a few tries. It's not advice; it's just my honest observations as I try to understand how this whole thing works. And perhaps profit from exchanging meme coins along this entire process.
