Ubisoft just made a drastic move in Blockchain gaming with their release of Rabbids Token in cooperation with UNICEF. Eventually, as more and more videogame giants set their eyes on gaming with the blockchain a future of cryptocurrency-based triple-A gaming titles.

Starting Simple

Blockchain games today do not have too much complicated mechanics. They are usually collection-based or trading card games. We could say that the games are simple and right now, crypto-based games are still in early stages. The release of Cryptokitties massively contributed to blockchain-based games and have inspired more developers to make their own games. 

The Possibilities are Endless

Ethereum has paved the way for decentralized apps (dApps) and tokens which are integrated into games based on the Ethereum blockchain where cards or collectible creatures take the form of tokens. This makes a future of paid-to-play possible and an in-game market with real-life value possible. Today, we might see simple games where you breed critters or trading card games but there will come a time where the videogame giants will be putting their money in the crypto industry where we will see vast worlds and unique mechanics in the blockchain games.

The stakes get high with players fighting for in-game items and currency which have real-life value. You can base playable characters, worlds, items or anything in the blockchain, making tokens of any digital possession. We will essentially create a new world with a new market and the feeling of being in the world is amped up by having real-life value.

Exode, Splinterlands and the like. Many games have already shown their potential and are still growing with innovation. Blockchain gaming is only getting greater. With blockchain games, come the adoption of crypto. These games have real value and they're just going to get more value as the time comes. With the release of new flagship consoles, the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, as gaming evolves, the blockchain tags along. The gaming industry is full of ideas and surely the industry will not ignore the great possibilities of blockchain gaming.

We might treat these games like gambling but I think not. Buying something on a cryptocurrency-based game could be treated as a stock or stake. It is a real investment with real risks and rewards. We pay for games and it makes sense that to get in a game you'd have to get some sort of starter pack (EA please do not kill blockchain games). Stocks is not gambling and I hope blockchain gaming doesn't get bad rap.
