Stay safe from PayPal phishing scams - a little guide

By sleepyjey | Crypto Queries | 8 Mar 2023

Have you ever received an email that seems to be from PayPal, but looks suspicious? Beware!

PayPal phishing scams are fraudulent attempts to steal your personal and financial information by posing as PayPal. Here are some tips to help you stay safe from PayPal phishing scams:

Look for signs of a phishing email: Phishing emails usually ask you to click on a link or download an attachment, and they often use urgent language to create a sense of urgency. They may also contain spelling or grammar errors or come from an unfamiliar email address. Often, they do not have your real name. They have a generic start like "Dear PayPal user".

Check the sender's email address: Make sure that the email is actually from PayPal by checking the sender's email address. Scammers may use email addresses that look similar to PayPal's official email address, but are slightly different.

Don't click on links or download attachments: If an email asks you to click on a link or download an attachment, don't do it. Instead, go directly to the PayPal website by typing "paypal.com" into your browser and logging in from there.

Do not click on links

Check for secure connections: Make sure that the website you're logging into is using a secure connection by looking for "https://" at the beginning of the URL and the padlock icon in your browser's address bar.

Secure website

Enable two-factor authentication: Enable two-factor authentication on your PayPal account to add an extra layer of security. This will require you to enter a unique code sent to your phone or email before you can log in.

Report phishing attempts: If you receive a phishing email or suspect that you've been targeted by a phishing scam, report it to PayPal immediately. You can forward the email to [email protected], and PayPal will investigate the issue.

Use antivirus software that has web protection: A lot of antiviruses have web protection that will immediately close a suspicious website or throw a warning.

Remember, never provide your personal or financial information to anyone who asks for it in an unsolicited email or phone call, and always be cautious when clicking on links or downloading attachments. Stay vigilant and keep your personal and financial information secure.

Remember, not everyone is as trustworthy as your pet dog!!
