Interpol has entered into a surprising alliance and is now planning to more accurately attack darkweb cybercriminals. Note that much of the illegal activity that takes place on the "dark side of the network" is financed through cryptocurrencies .

According to the official announcement of the International Criminal Police Organization, an agreement with the South Korean startup S2W Lab has just been signed. It concerns a tool that will help fight darkweb criminals.

Darkweb

Darkweb has become a real habitat of cybercriminals, of various kinds: from arms dealers, through distributors of hardcore pornography, to drug dealers. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to track information in this part of the network, which means that many dangerous criminals are never brought to justice. Now it is supposed to change.

S2W Lab comes into play

Established in 2018, the South Korean startup S2W Lab, using an "multi-domain analytical engine" based on artificial intelligence, now gives the services a powerful tool that allows them to analyze data from darbweb.

S2W Lab reportedly caught Interpol's attention thanks to some articles published by its specialists.

The company's CTO, Professor Shin Seung-won, commented on the new collaboration:

"Responding to cybercrime in darkweb is very difficult because of its [i.e. darkwebu] characteristics and widespread use of cryptocurrencies ... We will work with international services [bringing our] technology and contribute to technology that will be used for good purposes. "

The beginning of the end Monero?

Why is this important for cryptocurrency supporters? First of all, the elimination of ways to use digital currencies in the crime process can make bitcoin no longer associated with the world of illegal drugs, terrorists and mafias. This is the bright side of this issue.

There is also the other side of the coin. In darkweb, Monero or ZCash are often used. These cryptocurrencies are already removed from the stock exchange, because they allow fully anonymous transactions, and thus are inconsistent with the regulations adopted by the authorities. Now another blow to darkweb, and thus in it, can be done by Interpol.

Whether you like it or not, the entry of critics into the mainstream will be associated with some concessions ...
