In the modern Olympus of semiconductors, that role belongs to Intel. A God in the past, before the world changed. He was not destroyed or banned but simply left behind, downgraded. 

Prometheus or Sisyphus ?

Intel exists to challenge one assumption: that the vertical structure of ASML furnishing, TSMC manufacturing. NVIDIA computing power and AMD designing is immutable. 

Through Intel Foundry Services, its goal is simple : reduce dependence on TSMC and create another manufacturer in the West. 

Like Prometheus, Intel aim is to take "the fire" from the Taiwanese God and reopen the market, changing the Pantheon structure from a pillar to a branched one.

But today reality is harsh. Time is too fast nowadays. Every step Intel makes is countered by another TSMC innovation. Every node requires more investments and shrinks margins. Intel, like Sisyphus, keeps pushing the stone up the mountain but the goal is never reached. 

Sisyphus had one stone, Intel has many. Intel still competes with AMD and NVIDIA, but Intel needs those competitors as future customers. 

It's clear that Intel is not trying to subvert the heaven just for profit. Here geopolitics meets economy. Intel is pushed forward by the American will of dominance. Intel success is essential for the West, even a partial success would be important. A sub-alternative is still an alternative, a possible different future were TSMC is not the only alternative. A long struggle to prevent that actual order becomes eternal. Whatever the outcome, Intel must be prepared: Prometheus succeeded but the price was terrible !
