Sony brings entertainment to the blockchain

Sony-backed Soneium has announced plans to launch its own token called SONEIUM, although there's no launch date yet.

The Ethereum Layer 2 network is also planning to bring entertainment IP onto the blockchain, including music, anime, games, and other creative projects.

The idea is to let entertainment companies raise money through tokenized intellectual property while fans and investors can participate in these projects. Some of these tokens could also provide revenue sharing, depending on how they're structured.

Honestly, if this is implemented correctly, it could be a great use case for blockchain and crypto in real-world applications. However, after seeing so many failed projects, rug pulls, and scams in this space, I have my reservations, especially given Sony's recent controversial decisions around entertainment and its changing definition of ownership.

Having said that, I hope they implement this properly and that it actually works.
