The Republicans made two major mistakes.
Firstly they failed to build a credible succession plan so that as the election crept closer, their only alternative was Donald Trump.
Secondly, they remained silent on or supported the divisive, bigoted, unethical vile being spewed day after day from the highest office in the US.
The writing was on the wall. I saw it. How could they not?
Whatever the reason, their leader Donald Trump has reduced the party to a small, powerless base.
