No, you are not late to the party!
I am no way a financial advisor, so this article is just based on my personal experience and information I gather. Probably you heard lots these days about Cosmos ecosystem, and "free money" (ehm ehm airdrops) people are receving. You might think that you are late to the party and somehow you want to start accumulate some coins for possible future airdrops. Of course, it would be bit expensive now, comparing to few months ago (or even few weeks ago), but hey, snapshots are still taken and airdrops are still dropping, so you are not late to the party.

Staking Strategy
So if you are new to Cosmos Ecosystem: here are my top staking strategy:
Beginner
This is bare minimum to get most airdrops from the projects (it was like this till now for the most)
- 10 ATOM
- 10 OSMO
- 5 JUNO
Intermediate
Repeat the beginner and add
- 10 SCRT (Many projects are coming to secret, even if you don't like the recent price movements)
- some more JUNO (Can't get enough)
- ATOM-OSMO LP on osmosis.zone (+ sweet liquidity staking option for this pool)
Advanced
Here sky is the limit, as you have started to recognize some airdrops have some quite high requirements. So in advanced strategy will be about your risk threshold. In this case, you can start to accumulate some new projects, or give priority to more established projects like ATOM, OSMO or JUNO. Incentivized pools on junoswap will start very soon (waiting for their external audit finalized), so it would be better to keep an eye on it as well. There will be loads of new projects on Juno (CW-20 tokens).
In any case don't forget to compound your stakes, some daily (OSMO, KAVA), some weekly (JUNO) or monthly (ATOM, SCRT).
